Chapter 329: Gherlos
Chapter 329: Gherlos
That single subconscious glance nearly gave Phield a stroke from excitement.
"How long has it been since I last saw an uncontracted Divine Chosen? I was starting to think my Lord Talent was broken."
Wiping the acid off himself with a handkerchief, Phield burst into laughter despite his miserable appearance.
"It’s in Ram Territory. Now there’s finally something to look forward to."
"Rip."
A tearing sound echoed out as Ophelia sliced open the corpse’s stomach and crawled out.
Thanks to her divine power cloak, she emerged completely spotless.
"We actually made it inside."
Ophelia shot Phield an imposing glare.
"I was fully prepared to abandon the cockroach lord and run away by myself at any moment."
"You planned that well."
She folded her arms.
"Next time, don’t plan anything like that again. The disgusting part wasn’t the problem. It was far too risky."
"Rewards and risks always dance cheek to cheek."
Phield shrugged as he pulled out the Greatsword of Gluttony and Jamie.
Looking at the still-unconscious woman, he couldn’t help but comment,
"Rosalia’s physical hypnosis is surprisingly effective. Once she knocks someone out, they can sleep forever."
"The main reason is that Jamie’s injuries are too severe."
Ophelia shook her head. Her voice was relaxed and strangely tempting.
"Trash, you could probably get her pregnant right now and she still wouldn’t wake up."
"Ridiculous."
Phield rubbed his temples.
Crimson threads intertwined as Rosalia emerged from the Greatsword of Gluttony.
She stretched her graceful body lazily.
"It’s been a long time since I visited the civilized world."
"Honestly, I think Nightfall Domain is more civilized."
Phield shrugged.
"At least we don’t feed people to monsters."
"What do we do next?"
Ophelia rubbed her chin thoughtfully.
With her long legs crossed and her stern expression, she looked exactly like a strict homeroom teacher.
If she were wearing a teacher’s outfit along with black stockings and glasses, she would be the perfect image of a female instructor.
For a brief moment, her fair skin and perpetual look of disdain overshadowed Rosalia’s presence.
After all, Rosalia was currently in her younger form.
Her mature form was equally intimidating.
"Hey, trash lord."
Ophelia suddenly scolded him.
"We’re playing with fire in enemy territory. Why do your eyes keep drifting downward one moment and staring at the middle the next?"
She pointed accusingly.
"Right, Miss Rosalia? Do something about him."
Rosalia flipped her hair proudly and placed her hands on her hips.
"Clearly my figure is better."
She puffed out her chest.
"A combat-oriented body feels wonderful, but it’s a lot of work. Though I do have a mature form too."
"Corrupted creatures are unbelievable."
Ophelia looked utterly speechless.
"Is this really the time to be talking about that?"
"Exactly. You two are unbelievable."
When Phield nodded in agreement, Ophelia immediately crossed her arms over her chest with a smug expression.
"Back to serious matters."
Phield cleared his throat.
"Ophelia, have the corpse horde conceal itself as thoroughly as possible. Position the fast-moving corpses at the best observation points nearby. We need constant surveillance of everything happening around the border fortress."
At the same time, he controlled the black crow he had left outside the fortress and sent it to Ashina.
She was to take full command of the army and await his next orders.
"As for the rest of us..."
Phield rubbed his hands together eagerly.
"Let’s go treasure hunting and gather intelligence about the area."
Since the minimap had revealed an uncontracted Divine Chosen, he intended to seize it no matter which faction it belonged to.
Even if it was only First Tier and couldn’t provide much combat power immediately, it would still be worth it.
A First Tier Divine Chosen was essentially a blank slate.
Easy to cultivate.
Maybe it was his imagination, but Rosalia and Ashina always seemed slightly stronger than others of the same tier.
Pointing at the filthy Jamie, Phield gave Rosalia an order.
"You can wake her up now."
"My pleasure."
Rosalia grabbed Jamie and immediately slapped her twice.
"Pfft!"
Jamie coughed up a mouthful of dirty blood and slowly regained consciousness.
"Where am I?"
"Ahem."
Phield spread his fingers and waved them in front of her eyes.
"Miss Jamie, welcome back to Bull Territory."
He smiled pleasantly.
"Please cooperate with us. This is your best opportunity to stay alive."
"What? Bull Territory?"
Jamie jumped in shock.
The movement immediately aggravated her injuries. Her face turned deathly pale and she nearly fainted.
She looked around in disbelief.
Her expression shifted from confusion to outright horror.
"You... how did you get in here?"
Jamie simply couldn’t understand it.
The border fortress possessed terrifying defensive capabilities.
How had Phield managed to slip through?
Phield scratched his head awkwardly.
"Don’t worry about that."
He grinned.
"The process was pretty interesting. I think you enjoyed it quite a bit."
"I thought you were going to force me to lead you through the fortress."
Jamie had originally assumed that Phield would threaten her life and compel her to guide them through the defenses.
"Don’t waste time on boring tricks."
Phield waved dismissively.
"We didn’t spare your life because we were depending on you. We kept you alive because it required less effort."
He gestured toward the fortress behind them.
"The fact that we’re already through should prove that."
"If you want to gamble your life just to test one of my hidden cards, you’re welcome to try."
Jamie maintained a calm expression on the surface, but a storm was raging inside her mind.
Could he possess a rare spatial teleportation Divine Chosen?
Or perhaps some special magical artifact?
No matter how much she thought about it, she couldn’t figure out how Phield had infiltrated Bull Territory.
Without realizing it, a shadow had already formed in her heart.
Fear of the unknown made her unwilling to resist.
"Alright."
She nodded obediently.
"I’ll cooperate."
She forced a smile.
"I’m basically useless now. I won’t pose any threat to you."
"Good."
Phield nodded.
"Besides you, are there any other Divine Chosen in Ram Territory?"
"There is... one newcomer."
Jamie answered helplessly.
"Gherlos. A First Tier Slaughter Divine Chosen."
"We obtained her through an exchange with Night Owl."
"Although they’re rebels too, they strongly dislike Slaughter Divine Chosen. Those idiots actually gave up a powerful combat asset."
"I didn’t expect you to have dealings with Night Owl."
Phield frowned.
"Isn’t Night Owl dedicated to overthrowing oppression?"
"The people of Night Owl genuinely care about helping the lower classes."
Jamie licked her lips.
"But rebels are a different matter. Wherever there are people, there are desires."
She chuckled softly.
"Who doesn’t enjoy comfort and pleasure?"
"At the end of the day, Night Owl is just a tool. And not even a particularly sharp one."
"Enough about that."
Phield waved it off.
"Gherlos belongs to me now."
He spoke as though the matter were already settled.
"Let’s go. Ram Territory is your temporary domain, right?"
"That’s right."
Jamie nodded.
"But don’t celebrate too early."
A strange smile appeared on her face.
"That little girl is extremely arrogant."
She paused.
"I doubt she’ll think much of you."
