Chapter 2406 - 2407: Countermeasures
Letting out a sigh, Feng Yuan felt that lately crap just kept coming one after another. He hadn’t expected Hot Springs Town to count as a rare moment of rest, and now that they’d come to the theme park, trouble was starting again.
As for just ignoring it?
Feng Yuan himself could do that, but Agunas and the others couldn’t pretend nothing had happened. Even Veronia couldn’t. No matter what, they had a responsibility to maintain world order. Even if it was a civil war, they still had to suppress the massive invasion of the time tributaries.
Qi Chen and Dou Yanlan didn’t follow Feng Yuan to look for Feng Yuan, but instead found a place outside to rest and wait. They had no choice— the minecart tunnel wasn’t that wide, and if too many people squeezed in at once, it would just make it harder to move.
Besides, Qi Chen and the others were powerless in this kind of situation. Even if they went over, they’d just be watching the show. In this kind of scene, they really didn’t want to go asking for people’s annoyance.
The inside of the mine tunnel was fairly complex. Although you could move along the tracks, because this minecart ride was designed with track switches, without someone familiar with the environment leading the way, getting lost in there wasn’t impossible.
Relying on Agunas’s sensing and the staff leading the way, Feng Yuan quickly arrived at Veronia’s location. Since the Flames Tunnel minecart had already been switched into maintenance mode, transparent barriers had popped up outside the tracks to serve as footholds.
And all the lighting hidden inside the rock had been turned on. The whole tunnel looked pretty ordinary. Aside from those decorations, it was just the special effects devices revealing their true forms under the lights.
Whether it was the fake flames spraying when the minecart passed or the bat effects and the like, they all depended on these devices to work. Because of that, these things had to be exposed outside the rock. To hide them, the designers back then had really put in a lot of effort.
Now that all of this was out in the open, Feng Yuan looked at the tunnel bristling with all sorts of strange devices and couldn’t help sighing. When he rode the minecart earlier, he hadn’t noticed there were so many messy, cannon-muzzle-looking things along the way.
Veronia was squatting in front of a mural; the problematic Rune was hidden inside the mural. When Agunas saw Veronia, it squeezed right over and waved its Little Claw.
"It appeared here three days ago. You can check whether anyone approached this place around 11:23 p.m. three days ago."
Getting an answer instantly, Agunas turned and instructed the staff. Since its identity had already been confirmed when it issued orders, the staff didn’t need to ask their superiors for approval.
Watching the staff call the monitoring room to pull up the surveillance footage, Feng Yuan thought of something and said,
"They’d hide their presence, right?"
"Hard to say. Even if we know what they look like, finding them won’t be easy. After all, in this world there’s another individual exactly like them."
Flicking its tail, Agunas spoke with a headache. Of course, the one piece of good news was that the time tributaries probably didn’t have another Feng Yuan. Otherwise, they’d all have gone insane.
"That’s true enough. If we really want to find them, it’s not impossible. What I’m worried about now is how many people they’ve actually sent to lie in ambush over here."
Propping his chin with one hand, Feng Yuan spoke hesitantly. There was no helping it—although the history of the time tributaries didn’t fully match the main timeline, on the big picture it wasn’t all that different.
That meant their clothing might differ, but once they changed outfits, you might not recognize them at all. Of course, if they engaged in Beast Tamer battles, then it would be easy to tell, since the Beast Tamer methods in The Imperial Timeline weren’t quite the same as those in the main timeline.
The Imperial Timeline leaned more toward borrowing the power of Divine Beasts to personally go onto the battlefield, at least unlike the main timeline where everything was a hundred flowers blooming, but nothing was really specialized.
So as long as a Beast Tamer battle started, it was easy to distinguish whether the opponent was from The Imperial Timeline. As for the War Timeline, that was a different story.
Because judging from the previous summons, the Beast Tamer combat methods of the War Timeline were about the same as the main timeline’s, almost indistinguishable. The only consolation was that the War Timeline probably wouldn’t band together and launch a concentrated invasion.
"Do we need to erase this Rune?"
Feng Yuan thought of something and looked at Agunas as he asked. In his view, leaving it or removing it both seemed possible. But considering this was a theme park, dealing with it in advance might be the better choice; otherwise, who knew if an accident would happen?
Still, there were downsides too. Once it was removed, they’d lose this landing point, and no one could guarantee those people wouldn’t circle back and set things up again.
If they got hit without any preparation then, that would be trouble.
"Hard to say. I think we need to go on the offensive."
Flicking its tail, Agunas rarely showed a trace of annoyance. Although they’d only found a Rune here, it was convinced The Imperial Timeline wasn’t specifically targeting Feng Yuan.
In other words, the Rune here being discovered was just an accident; there were definitely more Runes hidden elsewhere. Rather than sitting there on the defensive, it was better to start a direct war. At least then, they wouldn’t get dragged into The Imperial Timeline’s tempo.
"Mm, you guys can talk to the Alliance about that yourselves, I’m not getting involved. I’m not joining the fight. But if you make a move now, won’t wartime logistics be a problem? Great Xia is fine, but the other countries might not be."
No matter what, the border War had only temporarily stopped. Great Xia hadn’t completely exited wartime status, but who knew about the other countries? If they suddenly mobilized their forces, Feng Yuan suspected all kinds of chaos would break out.
After all, if they were going to launch a proactive invasion into The Imperial Timeline, all regions and all countries would definitely have to participate together. Coordination alone would be a huge headache, and if they rushed into war without preparation, they’d just be a pile of scattered sand.
The Imperial Timeline was different. Although their prep time might not be that long or particularly advantageous, The Imperial Timeline basically had one Empire occupying and controlling an entire continent.
They didn’t need to coordinate different national forces like the main timeline, so if they suddenly launched an all-out War, who would actually win was hard to say.
"These Runes might not be able to open a big rift, but as long as needed, opening a small time-space gate shouldn’t be a problem. You think that’s a small matter?"
Giving Feng Yuan a sideways glance, Agunas spoke sternly. Shrugging, Feng Yuan chuckled and didn’t respond. He knew perfectly well what this thing meant; the fact that it could appear here meant that stuff was probably spread across most places already.
And as long as these Runes weren’t removed, they could become an invasion node at any time.
Even if they could only open a single crack, for the theme park it would be a major headache.
"I remember there’s a Divine Beast that specializes in Runes. Why not have it make a move? Only teamed-up Divine Beasts can handle something this widespread, right?"
Smiling, Feng Yuan tossed out a line. Agunas flicked its tail and said,
"But that only solves the problem in front of us. New troubles will keep popping up afterward. The only way is to..."
"There’s no easy once-and-for-all solution. Anyway, this is something you should discuss with the Alliance. I’m not touching it."
Waving his hand, Feng Yuan didn’t want to keep arguing with Agunas. This kind of full-scale War really had nothing to do with him. The only reason he brought it up was because he felt their plan was a bit questionable.
Agunas also knew they couldn’t count on Feng Yuan for this, so it didn’t continue on the topic.
The staff member pretended he hadn’t heard anything. He had no choice—this had just escalated to the Alliance level, and he was just a regular employee at a little amusement park. He couldn’t handle that.
"These Runes are pretty interesting. Wait, seems like we could play some tricks with them—like diverting them to the Data Domain? Or the outer Starry Sky?"
Studying those Runes, Feng Yuan touched his chin as he spoke. These only had a positioning function and no monitoring effect. If they were transferred, the other side might not notice.
Under those circumstances, it wouldn’t be impossible to have a bit of fun with them.
After all, if the other side had laid down a massive number of Runes, there was no way they could record the coordinates of every single Rune node.
"Uh, that actually...might work."
Veronia paused. It really hadn’t thought of that, but it did seem feasible. Tamur circled around the group once and said,
"Why not put them in the fake Mythical Era?"
"The fake Mythical Era?"
Not only Feng Yuan, even Agunas and the others were stunned. Just what weird thing had Tamur come up with now?
