Chapter 287 The World of Famine Relief (6)
Upon hearing Xie Qingci's words, everyone nodded in agreement, their eyes filled with pity but no intention to help.
"But we can't survive at all!" The woman glanced at the people and cried in despair, accompanied by the faint cries of children.
“We can’t save that many people. If you can’t stand up for yourselves, there will be a second time. You said it yourself, it’s a chaotic world, we can only look after ourselves,” Xie Zhian said in a deep voice as he stepped forward.
After the Xie family finished speaking, they stopped dawdling, quickly shouldered their packs, and followed Wangyou's footsteps.
"Follow them, follow them!" Someone clever reacted and got up to head in the direction the Xie family had left, but they walked for a long time without seeing the family again.
The Xie family used their lightness skills and quickly arrived at the foot of a mountain. Xie Qingqu took a stroll on the mountain and successfully found a cave, where the Xie family rested.
However, the crowd was clearly not in high spirits. Before this, they were all just ordinary people. They never expected to see blood today. It was their first time killing someone, and they were all somewhat uncomfortable.
Wangyou didn't say much. She had to process these emotions on her own. She couldn't remember what she felt when she killed someone for the first time. She only remembered the warmth of the blood on her face.
"Xie Yuchen, come here!"
"You're here." Xie Yuchen obediently walked up to Wangyou.
Wangyou didn't say much, but simply grabbed Xie Yuchen's fingertip and drew a drop of blood. Then, a shocking scene unfolded.
The drop of blood didn't fall to the ground; instead, it hovered in mid-air, forming a unique rune as Wangyou's fingertip slid across the surface.
"Break!" The runes dissipated, and Xie Yuchen suddenly felt an indescribable sense of lightness. At the same time, in a large mansion in Shengjing City, several people suddenly and inexplicably began to bleed until they bled to death.
A thunderclap boomed in the sky. Wangyou looked up at the sky, raised his middle finger, and said, "Try striking me."
Thunder rumbled, and everyone thought it was going to rain, but when they ran outside, the sky was already clear, and the scorching sun was still baking the earth; there was no sign of rain at all.
"What's going on?" Xie Yuchen had a keen sense that all of this was related to Wangyou.
"Your luck and destiny were stolen, but I just got them back for you."
"Then are you a fairy?"
"You can interpret it that way," Wangyou smiled, not denying it.
"I knew I wasn't that unlucky, I even met a fairy!" Xie Yuchen jumped for joy.
"Our daughter is so good to this child!" He Wenlan said softly.
"Don't ask so many questions. We're already very lucky. That child is probably someone our daughter knew before." Xie Zhi'an is very content with his current life. If he hadn't had his fairy-like daughter, he might not even exist in this world now.
"I'm just a little jealous. Wangyou's attitude towards us is different from her attitude towards that kid. She's obviously much closer to him." He Wenlan didn't have any bad intentions. She was just a little jealous that her daughter got along well with others.
"Don't think too much about it. They must have known us before we did. My daughter has been very good to us." Xie Zhian knew what He Wenlan was upset about, but there was nothing he could do about it.
"Little sister, you're so nice to this guy, your brother is getting jealous," Xie Qingci said with a grin as she walked over.
"Second Brother, do you need me to give you a jar of vinegar so you can eat your fill?" Wangyou asked sincerely.
"Never mind, I'll go gather firewood!" Xie Qingci smiled and left.
"Little sister, this little brother is handsome!" Xie Qingxi said quietly as she moved closer.
"It's just so beautiful!"
"I think I can stay and be your childhood sweetheart," Xie Qingxi said very seriously, looking quite earnest.
“I can be Wangyou’s childhood sweetheart, but you can’t,” Xie Yuchen said hastily, not having heard the rest of the sentence.
"Aren't you going home?" Wangyou asked, suppressing a smile.
"I'm not going back. I haven't had a home since Grandpa passed away." Xie Yuchen lowered his head, somewhat dejected.
"With such a delicate face, she could definitely be my childhood sweetheart," Wangyou said with a grin.
The next day, the group set off again. They passed through Jiading Prefecture, but the city gates were still closed. After traveling for several more days, they arrived at Yongding Prefecture, where they encountered a group of refugees who had rebelled on the spot.
The Yongding Prefecture was filled with corpses and the sounds of wailing.
"This, this is refugees breaking into the city."
"Judging from the looks of it, they just grabbed the stuff and left," Xie Yuchen observed and said.
Wangyou also saw some soldiers dragging their wounded bodies to clean up the battlefield, but there were always more dead than alive.
Wangyou looked back at her parents, then at her brothers and sisters. None of them had the bearing of an emperor, but it was clear that this chaotic world would not end in a year or two.
Since her family members were not suitable to be emperor, she would have to take the throne herself. As for supporting others, Wangyou had not considered it. She would not support those related by blood, but she would rather take the throne herself than do the work for someone else if they were not related by blood.
"I'm going to rebel!"
"what!"
"I said, I want to rebel!"
"Rebellion is great! It should have happened a long time ago. Then you, my sister, will be the founding empress, and I can become a general." Xie Qingqu was the quickest to accept this idea, already envisioning the future.
"Rebel! Rebel! Our whole family supports you!" Xie Zhian said with a smile, realizing what was happening. As for failure, that was impossible; he hadn't even considered it.
“Then I will be the future empress’s childhood sweetheart.” Xie Yuchen was equally supportive.
"Then it's settled. We'll start our rebellion from Yongding Prefecture." Wangyou made the final decision.
"So what do we do now?"
"First, find out how many people and soldiers are left in the city. There is a food shortage now, and food is the last thing I lack. Once you find them, whether you trick them or threaten them, make them report to the former prefect's residence."
"Alright, little sister, how about this, we can just bang drums and gongs to call people out. Anyway, we have food, so we don't have to worry about not having people," Xie Qingci suggested.
"Second Brother's suggestion is excellent, then I'll leave this matter to you." Wangyou readily handed over the task.
Wangyou then led the others to the prefect's residence, which was littered with signs of arson, murder, and looting. After inspecting the residence, they found no survivors. Xie Zhian and Xie Qingqu gathered the bodies together.
Wangyou then took out pots and pans, saying, "Mom, let's make braised meat. Make it as fragrant as possible."
"Okay." Upon hearing this, He Wenlan, Xie Qingtian, and Xie Qingxi got to work.
Wangyou didn't want to move the body, and she wasn't good at cooking, so she simply pulled Xie Yuchen to sit on the threshold, eating snacks while waiting for him.
Between staying with Wangyou and the others and helping with the cooking, Xie Yuchen chose to stay with them, just in case anything happened, even if he might not be needed.
Gradually, intermittent footsteps began to appear on the streets on both sides, and Xie Qingci appeared with a gong after a busy afternoon.
"Second Brother, you've worked hard. Have some water." Wangyou took out the honey tea she had prepared beforehand, and Xie Qingci took it and drank it all in one gulp.
