Chapter 1 Rescuing People Through Time
Chapter 1 Rescuing People Through Time
Lin Shushu stood on a stretch of Gobi Desert, with an endless wilderness before her and a spaceship gradually disappearing into the distance behind her.
Just minutes ago, she was brought here by the same spaceship that had just departed. The only person on board told her that the planet beneath her feet was an inheritance left to her by her father, and that the relevant inheritance procedures had been completed. The planet, designated M19, was now officially under her name.
Lin Shushu had not yet recovered from the fact that she had traveled through time. She accepted it all indifferently, her thoughts already returning to the moment of her death.
Like many young people today, Lin Shushu works a 9-to-5 job as an administrative assistant at a company. An assistant is basically doing odd jobs; she does whatever the boss tells her to do, from small things like serving tea and water and organizing documents to big things like accompanying the boss to social events and handling contract matters, all for a meager monthly allowance.
Lin Shushu is an orphan, left at the gate of an orphanage when she was six months old. The orphanage took her in, and she grew up with many hardships, relying on the support of kind-hearted people in society to complete high school. During the college entrance examination, she suffered a serious illness and did not perform well, ultimately only getting into a second-tier university. After the college entrance examination, she moved out of the orphanage and began to support herself.
After enrolling at university, Lin Shushu applied for student loans and worked part-time in her spare time to support herself. During her four years of university, Lin Shushu completed her studies and supported herself through student loans and part-time jobs.
After graduating from university, Lin Shushu joined this company. Although the salary was not high, she dared not quit easily, after all, in addition to rent and living expenses, there were tens of thousands of yuan in student loans waiting for her.
However, all of that is in the past. Today, she finally paid off her student loan.
Lin Shushu carried the groceries she had bought from the market, walking back to her rented room in the afterglow of the setting sun, feeling incredibly relaxed and content. Debt-free, she finally understood the true meaning of that phrase.
Just as Lin Shushu reached a row of shops about 50 meters from the entrance of the residential area, she glanced up and her pupils suddenly widened. Five meters away, she saw an advertising billboard on the third-floor exterior wall swaying precariously back and forth. Standing beneath the billboard was a little girl of about 10 years old, completely unaware of the impending danger.
Without a second thought, Lin Shushu rushed forward and grabbed the little girl. The billboard, having served its purpose, fell to the ground before Lin Shushu could react, striking her squarely in the head. Suffering a severe head injury, Lin Shushu managed only to push the little girl away before collapsing to the ground.
A gasp rippled through the crowd as they swarmed around her. They frantically moved the billboard aside, some frantically dialing 120 (emergency services), others trying to stop the bleeding from Lin Shushu's wound with tissues, and still others calling out anxiously in her ear. But it was too late. Lin Shushu took one last look at the setting sun before losing consciousness completely.
Unbeknownst to everyone, a bead of unknown material around Lin Shushu's neck was slowly absorbing her blood, gradually becoming transparent until it disappeared.
Lin Shushu's soul floated out of her body. Looking at the chaotic scene before her, she didn't regret saving people, only felt a pang of regret. She still had many unfulfilled wishes: she hadn't seen the azure sea, hadn't witnessed the swirling snowflakes, and hadn't found the person to spend her life with…
She had planned that once she paid off her loan, she would leave everything behind and take a spontaneous trip, going wherever she pleased.
But now, before the journey has even begun, life has already ended.
The biggest regret is that I haven't had time to save up enough money to buy myself a small home.
She had a dream since childhood: to buy an apartment in the city where she lived. The apartment didn't have to be big, but she would decorate it warmly and cozyly. After working hard in the city, when she was tired and weary, she would return to her own home, where her soul would find peace. Among all the lights in the city, having one that belonged to her was perhaps the most comforting thing.
As my thoughts drifted away, a voice suddenly rang in my ears: "Do you want to live again?"
"Who's speaking?" Lin Shushu was startled and subconsciously looked around, trying to find the source of the voice.
"You don't need to know who I am. I have some connection with your ancestor. I once gave him a Yuan Pearl, saying that if any of his descendants could open the Yuan Pearl in the future, I would grant them a great fortune. It's just a pity that no one has been able to open it in thousands of years."
"You mean the bead I wear around my neck?" Lin Shushu asked, recalling the bead she had worn since childhood.
Lin Shushu didn't know what the bead was made of or what its purpose was. She only knew that it was worn around her neck when she was sent to the orphanage. Over the years, she had always worn it close to her body, and she had thought that she could use the bead to find her biological parents. If, unfortunately, her parents were no longer alive, then the bead would be a memento. People always need something to hold onto in order to live, don't they?
"Yes, it's called the Yuan Pearl. It can keep your soul condensed and prevent it from dissipating. The fact that you can float here now is thanks to it. In addition, I have refined it into a personal space, which is a small world of its own, and contains trinkets that I have collected over the years of traveling in the lower realms. You are the first person in thousands of years to activate it, so make good use of it from now on."
"The future? But I'm already dead, what can my soul do?" Lin Shushu asked, puzzled.
"This is another function of the Yuan Pearl; it can take you through time and space to another world."
"Can't I stay here? Everything here is familiar to me," Lin Shushu asked.
“No, you are already dead in this timeline. The laws of nature cannot be defied. If you are willing, I will find you a suitable body. With the Yuan Pearl, you can start a new life.”
“Okay, I agree to go to the other world. Please help me, senior,” Lin Shushu said sincerely.
"You must remember, the Yuan Pearl is an extraordinary object. If the holder harbors good intentions, it can bring blessings to all living beings. However, if the holder harbors evil intentions, the Yuan Pearl will become the source of evil. At that time, to prevent the collapse of the world, the Heavenly Dao will punish the holder, and the holder of the Yuan Pearl will be doomed forever. Remember! Remember!"
"Please rest assured, senior, I will definitely make good use of it and will never use it for anything I shouldn't do," Lin Shushu assured her.
"Alright, I believe you. Someone who can activate the Yuan Pearl is naturally not a villain. Of course, it's also important to live a carefree life in this second life, but I hope you can stay true to yourself."
"Please rest assured, senior, I will never let you down," Lin Shushu said confidently.
After a spatial fluctuation, Lin Shushu's soul entered the Yuan Pearl, and then slowly dissipated from this world along with it. And all of this remained unknown to anyone.
