Chapter 13: The Old Rascal
Chapter 13: The Old Rascal
"Bang!"
Natsu collapsed to the ground, suddenly waking up. He scrambled to his feet, wiping his drool.
"Forget it, let's finish here and go home."
Moen was amused by him, shook his head speechlessly, and then chose to let Natsu go. He had no choice but to let him go, since the guy hadn't even meditated for two minutes before falling asleep quickly.
"That's great!"
Upon hearing Moen say "the end," Natsu immediately snapped out of his daze. He jumped up and dashed out, completely drowsy.
"This guy..."
Moen couldn't help but chuckle. Getting this kid to sit quietly for a while was indeed too difficult. It could only be said that Natsu was really used to being wild in the wild.
Natsu is very lively.
Levy covered her mouth and chuckled, her eyes full of amusement. Natsu was truly one of the few people who could make Moen so helpless.
"Let's go, Levy, do you want me to take you home?"
Moen tidied up the study room and then asked Levy, who had been helping out.
"No need, Brother Moen, I can go back by myself. The dormitory isn't far, so don't worry. After all, I am a mage."
Levy blushed slightly, waved her hands repeatedly, and after saying goodbye to Moen, she quickly scurried away on her short legs as if fleeing.
Moen didn't necessarily intend to escort them, because the Fairy Tail guild's girls' dormitory wasn't far from the guild hall. It was just a few houses away on a hillside, even closer than Moen's house, and it wouldn't take more than ten minutes to walk there.
The boys' dormitory is a bit far, but there's no need to worry about Natsu. He's a tough guy who can survive in the wild at a young age, and with his strength, even if several adult mages ganged up on him, they would only be beaten to a pulp.
The dormitory provided by the Fairy Tail guild is not free; in fact, it is quite expensive, costing 100,000 J per month. A decent apartment outside would cost around 70,000 J.
However, the guild's dormitory is indeed luxurious enough, the quality is definitely worth the price, and it is much more convenient than renting a house on your own.
Out of humanitarian concern, the guild's dormitories are free until the mages have acquired basic earning skills.
After all, you can't expect a five or six-year-old orphan to come up with 100,000 J every month. This amount of money is not a small sum for most people, and only mages can easily afford it.
Natsu, Gray, Erza, and even Cana, Levy, Jet, and Troy have all mastered magic and can now take on commissions.
As they grow older, they'll have to pay their own rent. That's the price of growing up; carefree days are fading away.
After leaving the study room, Moen locked the door. It was almost 10 p.m., and the guild was already deserted. The hall was pitch black. Unless there was something going on, no one would stay in the guild at night, and Grandpa Makarov would lock the door and go home.
Because of his diligent practice, Moen sometimes loses track of time when he meditates. He leaves the guild very late every night, so he takes on the job of locking the door and opening it very early in the morning, which helps to lighten Grandpa Makarov's workload.
After making sure no one was around the guild, Moen prepared to leave.
"I'm the last one to leave the guild again. Today was another day of hard work."
Moen tossed the keys in his hand up and caught them again and again, a smile on his face as he gave himself a word of encouragement.
"Moen".
Suddenly, a sound rang out in the dark guild hall. Moen stopped in his tracks, his body tensing up.
However, after recognizing the voice, he relaxed and looked helplessly at a table in the corner.
Sure enough, there sat a small figure, looking like a child, not much taller than Xiao Lei.
"Grandpa Makarov, people can scare each other to death."
That small figure was Makarov Dreyer, the third generation of the Fairy Tail guild, one of the legendary Ten Wizard Saints, and the grandfather of Moen and Laxus.
"Haha, did I scare you? I'm so sorry."
Makarov jumped off the chair, laughing heartily as he approached Moen.
He wore a circus clown hat with two horns, and his old face had a kind smile. He didn't look imposing at all, just like a mischievous old grandfather next door.
"You were deliberately concealing your presence, of course I was scared!"
Moen was indeed startled, because he had just checked the entire guild and confirmed that no one was left. Then Grandpa Makarov suddenly pulled this stunt, clearly waiting here on purpose to scare him.
With Makarov's strength, it would be incredibly easy for him to avoid being discovered by Moen. He simply sat down in a corner and became invisible! Moen looked around but didn't notice him at all.
"Haha, don't be angry, Moen, let's go home!"
Makarov wore a smug expression, as if he had pulled off a prank. He was truly a playful old man, without any airs of a strongman. He usually sat at the children's table and could genuinely play with them. He was an old child at heart, an old child indeed.
"Forget it, let's go home."
Moen wasn't really angry; he was used to it. Besides, Grandpa Makarov's personality was actually quite likable. He was the guild leader who could be friends with everyone in the guild, and everyone was happy to confide in him about their problems.
His formidable strength and widespread fame throughout the continent inspire awe and respect in everyone, and no one will look down on him because of his height or personality.
This way of getting along and this method of leading the guild are far superior to those guild leaders who rely on putting on an air of authority to lead the guild.
It can be said that Grandpa Makarov is the soul of Fairy Tail today. He gave the entire guild its tone and foundation, and he is definitely an outstanding guild leader.
Grandpa Makarov may have had his flaws, but for Moen, who aspires to take over the guild, Grandpa Makarov has many admirable qualities that he can learn from, and he has always regarded Grandpa Makarov as his role model.
The grandfather and grandson chatted and laughed as they walked out of the guild hall. Moen locked the door, announcing that Fairy Tail was officially closed for the day.
"Did Laxus and you have another argument?"
As they walked, Makarov asked a question, his expression no longer joking but showing a rare hint of worry.
"We didn't argue, I just tried to persuade him again."
Looking at the small ball of light that kept swaying in front of him, Moen simply replied that the small ball of light was Grandpa Makarov's magic, and that Grandpa Makarov was proficient in all kinds of magic.
