Chapter 296 The Invisible Monster
Chapter 296 The Invisible Monster
Inside the Victory Team's command center, the atmosphere was serious and focused. Everyone looked at Lin Yeming, waiting for his instructions.
The operation was divided into two groups: Daigo and Rena were in one group, driving patrol cars to conduct routine patrols and monitor for abnormal energy reactions in the eastern part of the city; Horii and Shinjo were in another patrol car, focusing on re-examining the sea area and surrounding area previously reported by photographer Hoshino.
Vice Captain Munakata and Captain Megumi Iruma were stationed at the command center, while Nozue, Hayashi Yomei, and Dr. Kenmura, who had been invited to assist, stayed at the base to analyze the massive amount of data collected recently.
After watching his comrades depart, Ye Rui immediately sat down in front of the main control computer and pulled up the latest encrypted data packet sent back by Delta Force.
"This is a follow-up monitoring report from the space station regarding the previous anomalous spatial fluctuation. It contains some... very blurry image enhancement maps." He typed on the keyboard, projecting an image processed by a complex algorithm onto the large screen.
Against the backdrop of a pitch-black starry sky, starlight twinkles, but between certain star fields, an extremely large, distorted, and faint shadow can be vaguely seen.
Through color enhancement and outline delineation, it can be barely discerned that it appears to be a pair of... enormous, snail-like tentacles, faintly visible in the deep space of space, as if blending into the starry sky in the background.
Lin Yeming's pupils contracted slightly as he stared intently at the blurry outline.
A strong sense of déjà vu washed over me.
He was at least 90% certain that the outline was that of a monster!
The remaining 10% uncertainty needs to be compared with the information in his memory.
Thinking about it this way, the floodgates of memory opened, and a clear image emerged: the cosmic snail!
It was that gentle giant beast searching for its child.
The female snail left a deep impression on him; it was so huge that it blotted out the sky.
If this image is indeed of it, then why would it appear near Earth in such an almost "invisible" state?
Was it caught up in some kind of state by a previous spatial anomaly, or was it undertaking some kind of special space voyage?
He needed more data to support his suspicions, so Lin Yeming suppressed his guesses and turned his attention to the other parts of the report.
His gaze swept quickly across the list of technical personnel involved in the data analysis, and one name suddenly caught his attention.
That name is none other than Kazuma Asuka!
He is Shin Asuka's father.
It is also Dyna.
But when did it turn into light?
Lin Yeming remembered that the other party turned into light when testing the new fighter jet.
Many other things were not explained.
One theory is that Asuka Shin's plea for help led to Dyna's appearance...
Meanwhile, the two patrol teams were making little progress.
From the blazing midday sun to the deepening twilight...
The four people searched almost the entire designated area and used all available detection equipment, but found nothing.
There were no abnormal energy reactions, no spatial distortions, the sea was calm, and the city was peaceful, as if all the previous anomalies were just people's illusions.
"Sigh, another wasted trip." Shinjo said to Horii beside him, somewhat dejectedly, as he drove the patrol car.
Horii adjusted the detector parameters, looking helpless: "All the data is normal. It seems that the so-called monster is not so easy to capture."
As it was getting late, Captain Ju Jianhui ordered both teams to retreat.
On the way back, as they passed a residential area near the sea, Xincheng caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye of several older boys shoving and pushing a smaller boy around in an open space in the park below.
"Stop!" Upon seeing this, Shinjo immediately stopped the patrol car and shouted through the external loudspeaker.
But the sudden braking seemed to make the children below even more nervous.
The boy who was surrounded tried to fight back, but he was no match for the three others and was tackled to the ground.
Shinjo was furious and immediately chased after them with Horii.
"What are you doing! Stop it!" The older kids were startled when they saw the adults in the GUTS uniforms running towards them. One of them, with his neck stiff, shouted, "Hmph! Mind your own business! He's a liar! His dad is too! They made up stories even though there were no monsters, causing the GUTS team to run around for nothing and wasting everyone's time!" After saying that, the three of them exchanged glances and ran away quickly.
Shinjo and Horii didn't chase after him; instead, they quickly went to help the bullied boy up.
The boy's face was covered in dust, his arms were scratched, and his clothes were dirty, but there was a stubborn look in his eyes.
Shinjo brushed the dirt off him and asked gently, "Little boy, are you alright? Why were they bullying you? Is your father... Mr. Hoshino?" The boy looked up at Shinjo, his eyes a little red, nodded, then quickly lowered his head and whispered, "My name is A-Xiang. They said my father is a liar, that he never saw the monster..."
After leading A-Xiang to sit on a nearby rock, Shinjo contacted Mr. Hoshino.
Soon, Hoshino rushed over. Seeing his son's disheveled yet stubborn appearance, he felt both heartache and guilt.
He repeatedly thanked Shinjo and Horii.
“Mr. Hoshino, please don’t say that. Protecting the public is our duty, including protecting children from being bullied,” Shinjo said solemnly. He glanced at A-Xiang, who had his head down, and said to Hoshino, “Besides, we haven’t determined that what you saw was fake. Some things may be much more complicated than they appear.”
Hoshino paused for a moment, sensing a different meaning in Shinjo's words.
All he wants now is for this matter to end; he doesn't want his child to be hurt anymore.
He bowed again to express his gratitude, and then left with his son.
Shinjo was silent for a moment, then said to Horii, "I want to stay and continue the investigation. You can go back now."
Horii glanced at Shinjo and laughed, "If this monster really exists, then it's like a ghost."
Are you sure you want to patrol alone?
Shinjo forced a smile and said, "Of course, it's just a monster. It's not like I haven't seen them before."
Shinjo wasn't afraid at first, but Horii said that monsters were like ghosts, so he became a little scared.
Horii chuckled, picked up the communicator, and pretended to talk to Daigo, saying, "Daigo, come pick me up..."
Before he could finish speaking, Xincheng covered the communicator with his hand.
At this moment, Shinjo realized he had been tricked when he saw that the communicator was not turned on.
"Horii!!"
"You bastard!"
Just as the two were playing around, they suddenly remembered the sound of the Enoden's whistle, and then headquarters detected that strange fluctuation.
"This is Yoruaki. All personnel, proceed to investigate the vicinity of the Enoden!"
"Please be sure to pay attention to safety."
