Chapter 8 Unexpected Changes and Hidden Crises
Huanmo was startled and instinctively took a step back, trying to dodge. But the dark figure was incredibly fast, appearing in front of him in an instant. Huanmo had no time to think and quickly dodged to the side, narrowly avoiding the dark figure's direct attack.
Only then did he realize that the dark figure was actually a person dressed in black, masked, holding a gleaming dagger in his hand, with a fierce killing intent in his eyes.
"Who are you? How dare you attempt an assassination in my residence!" Huanmo roared, drawing his sword swiftly from his waist and assuming a defensive stance.
The masked man didn't answer, but instead brandished his dagger and lunged at Huanmo again. Huanmo dared not be careless and focused intently on dealing with the attack. His sword moved with impenetrable speed, clashing with the masked man's dagger and producing a series of crisp sounds.
The maids and servants in the mansion were already paralyzed with fear, staring in terror at the sudden scene, too terrified to even breathe.
Wanru was eagerly awaiting good news from Huanmo in the courtyard when she suddenly heard a commotion outside, which seemed to include Huanmo's angry shouts. Her heart tightened, and an ominous premonition welled up inside her.
"Could something have happened? Could it be related to Young Master Huanmo?" Wanru wondered as she hurriedly ran towards the direction from which the sound came.
Huanmo was locked in fierce combat with the masked man when he realized that the assassin was exceptionally skilled. Every move he made was ruthless, clearly indicating that he had undergone rigorous training. Moreover, the assassin seemed determined to kill him, targeting vital points with every strike.
"Who sent you?" Huanmo shouted as he fought, but the masked man remained silent, only continuing to launch attacks.
Just as Huanmo was gradually figuring out the opponent's attack patterns and preparing to find an opportunity to counterattack, the masked man suddenly feinted and then turned and ran towards a secluded corner of the garden.
Huanmo was not about to let him off easily, and immediately drew her sword and gave chase.
When Wanru arrived at the garden, she only saw Huanmo chasing after a dark figure as it disappeared into the distance, along with a maid and servant lying on the ground.
"What happened? Where is Young Master Huanmo?" Wanru asked the maid and servant anxiously.
The maid replied in a trembling voice, "Miss, there is... there is an assassin. He was fighting with Young Master Huanmo just now, and now he has gone after the assassin."
Upon hearing this, Wanru was greatly alarmed. Worried about Huanmo's safety, she disregarded everything else and chased after Huanmo in the direction he had gone.
Huanmo followed the masked man through the garden and several corridors, finally arriving at a secluded, abandoned courtyard in the mansion. The masked man slipped into a room in the courtyard.
Huanmo followed closely and rushed into the house. However, the house was empty; the masked man seemed to have vanished into thin air.
Huanmo became wary, knowing there was something fishy going on, so he cautiously began to search the room.
Just as he reached a corner of the room, his foot suddenly went weak, as if he had stepped on some kind of mechanism. Immediately afterward, a hidden door slowly opened in the wall, and a sinister aura rushed out.
Huanmo frowned, gripped his sword tightly, and walked towards the hidden door.
Wanru chased after him, but lost track of Huanmo. She searched the mansion frantically, her heart filled with anxiety.
"Young Master Huanmo, you absolutely cannot get into trouble!" Wanru prayed incessantly in her heart, her eyes already reddening, her heart filled with worry for Huanmo.
After Huanmo entered the hidden door, there was a narrow passage. The passage was dimly lit, and the only light came from the torches placed at intervals on the walls.
He walked slowly along the passage and suddenly heard a low voice talking ahead.
"How's it going? Has Huanmo been eliminated?" a hoarse voice asked.
"Hmph, that Huanmo does have some skill. He didn't succeed this time, but I've already set up traps on his path. If he accidentally triggers them, he'll be in for a world of hurt," another voice said viciously.
Huanmo was furious upon hearing this, realizing he had fallen into a meticulously planned conspiracy. However, he didn't back down. Instead, he cautiously moved towards the direction of the sound, wanting to see who was behind it all.
As he approached the end of the passage, several figures suddenly appeared ahead. In the dim light, Huanmo could make out their faces. Some of them were servants he had seen in the mansion, but there was one he had never seen before: a middle-aged man in fine clothes with a gloomy face.
"Who exactly are you people? Why did you attempt to assassinate me in my own residence?" Huanmo roared angrily.
The middle-aged man sneered and said, "Huanmo, you really are lucky. But today is your death day. Who told you to meddle and ruin our plans!"
Huanmo frowned, puzzled. He didn't know what he had done to ruin these people's plans, but he knew that he had to deal with the immediate crisis first.
Just as tensions were running high between the two sides, Wanru was still anxiously searching for Huanmo in the mansion. She searched every corner, but still couldn't find any trace of Huanmo.
"Young Master Huanmo, where are you?" Wanru was extremely anxious, and tears streamed down her face.
Suddenly, she seemed to hear faint sounds of fighting coming from one direction. Wanru's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly ran in that direction.
When she arrived, she found herself in an unfamiliar place, surrounded by darkness, with only some light ahead, and from that light, she could hear the sounds of fighting.
Wanru gritted her teeth and mustered her courage to walk towards the light. She didn't know what awaited her, but she had only one thought in her mind: to find Huanmo and ensure his safety.
