Chapter 12 Cave Exploration and Unknown Crisis

Chapter 12 Cave Exploration and Unknown Crisis

Wanru stood inside the cave, the low, buzzing sound growing ever closer, her heart pounding in her chest. The torch in her hand trembled slightly, casting eerie shadows on the cave walls, adding to the sinister atmosphere.

"What is that sound? Could there really be something mysterious guarding that legendary treasure?" Wanru wondered to herself, waves of fear washing over her. But when she thought of the unconscious Huanmo, she forced herself to muster her courage. "For Huanmo's sake, I have to find out, no matter how dangerous it may be."

She gripped the torch tightly, slowly moving toward the direction from which the sound came. With each step, she could almost hear her own heart pounding in the silent cave.

As she drew closer, Wanru could vaguely see a blurry black shadow moving in front of her, and the buzzing sound was coming from there. She stopped and tried to open her eyes wide to see what it was, but the light was too dim, and she could only make out a rough outline, like a huge, winged thing.

"Could it be... a monster?" This terrifying thought flashed through Wanru's mind, and her legs involuntarily began to weaken. But then, she remembered Huanmo's pale face, and a resolute determination welled up within her. "No, I can't back down. Huanmo is waiting for me to save him!"

She took a deep breath and slowly walked forward again. When she was only a few steps away from the dark figure, Wanru finally saw it clearly. It was a huge, strangely shaped flying insect, its body taller than a person, and its wings made a chilling buzzing sound as they flapped.

Wanru stared in horror, her eyes wide, and instinctively took a few steps back. The flying insect seemed to sense her presence, suddenly turning its head, its pair of bright red eyes staring straight at her, as if it were about to pounce on her at any moment.

"What should I do? What should I do?" Wanru was extremely panicked, and she almost dropped the torch in her hand. She looked around, trying to find a way to avoid or fight off the flying insect. But apart from the jagged rocks, there was nothing useful in the cave.

Just as she was at a loss, the flying insect suddenly opened its blood-red mouth, let out a sharp cry, and pounced on Wanru. Wanru screamed in fright and instinctively dodged to the side. The insect missed its target and crashed into the cave wall with a dull thud.

"Phew...that was close!" Wanru was still shaken, panting heavily. But she knew that the flying insect wouldn't give up so easily, and she had to find a way to deal with it.

Her gaze fell on the torch in her hand, and she thought that perhaps she could use it to drive away the insect. So, she mustered her courage, waved the torch, and rushed towards the insect, shouting, "Don't come any closer! Don't come any closer!"

The flying insect seemed somewhat afraid of the firelight. When it saw Wanru waving a torch and charging towards it, it took a few steps back, flapping its wings more rapidly and buzzing louder, as if it were showing off to Wanru.

Taking advantage of the situation, Wanru continued to wave the torch, approaching the flying insect step by step, trying to corner it. The flying insect kept retreating, but refused to leave, and the two remained locked in a stalemate.

During the stalemate, Wanru suddenly noticed a small indentation in the cave wall behind the flying insects, where something seemed to be faintly shimmering. A thought struck her: could that be the legendary treasure?

But with the flying insect blocking her way, she couldn't get past it to check. Wanru was extremely anxious, constantly on guard against the insect's attacks while desperately wanting to know if the shimmering thing was the treasure that could save Huanmo.

Just then, the flying insect seemed to sense Wanru's thoughts. It suddenly attacked again, swooping down on her. Wanru couldn't dodge in time and was grazed by the insect's wing, falling to the ground. The torch slipped from her hand and rolled to the side, plunging the cave into darkness.

"It's over..." Wanru closed her eyes in despair, thinking she was surely going to die here. But just as the flying insect was about to pounce on her again, it suddenly seemed to sense some danger, turned around sharply, and flew into the depths of the cave, quickly disappearing from sight.

Wanru opened her eyes in surprise, not understanding what had happened. She hurriedly got up, picked up the torch, looked in the direction where the flying insect had disappeared, and after confirming that it would not return, she turned and walked towards the place where the light was flickering on the cave wall.

As she approached, she saw a small box nestled in the recess, emitting a soft glow that gave it a mysterious appearance. Wanru carefully picked up the box, her heart pounding with a mixture of nervousness and anticipation.

"Could this be the treasure that can grant wishes? Can it really take me back to the modern world to save Huanmo?" Wanru's hands trembled slightly as she gently opened the box.

Inside the box lay a crystal-clear bead, radiating an eerie light as if it contained boundless power. Wanru stared at the bead, her heart filled with both doubt and hope.

Just as she was about to examine the bead closely, a deep rumbling sound suddenly echoed in the cave, and the ground began to shake violently.

"What's going on?" Wanru looked around in horror, clutching the bead tightly in her hand. She didn't know what had happened so suddenly, nor what would happen next. But she knew she had to leave this place as soon as possible with the bead; perhaps only it could save Huanmo.

Wanru suppressed her fear and stumbled towards the cave exit. But the cave shook more and more violently, and rocks kept falling from the ceiling, nearly hitting her several times.

She ran with all her might, with only one thought in her mind: she must get the bead out of here, she must save Huanmo.

Finally, at the last second, Wanru ran out of the cave. She looked back at the already crumbling cave and gasped for breath, still shaken.

At this moment, the light from the bead in Wanru's hand seemed to grow even stronger. She looked down at the bead, unsure of what to do next to fulfill her wish of returning to the modern world, or whether the bead truly possessed such magical power.

Just as she was pondering this, the sound of horses' hooves suddenly came from afar, sounding like a large group of people. Wanru raised her head and looked in the direction from which the sound of hooves came, a strange unease welling up in her heart.
