Chapter 24 Mural Prophecies and Unknown Challenges

Chapter 24 Mural Prophecies and Unknown Challenges

Inside the secret chamber, the soft glow of the spiritual pearls illuminated the moving murals, making the strange scenes depicted on them even more lifelike and awe-inspiring. In the scenes of collapsing mountains, boulders rolled down, raising clouds of dust; where rivers had dried up, the cracked earth resembled gaping, thirsty mouths, telling of despair; the scenes of widespread suffering were heartbreaking, with people fleeing in all directions, their faces filled with terror and helplessness. In contrast, the scenes of mysterious forces converging and shining brightly seemed to bring a glimmer of hope, yet also appeared so ethereal and distant.

Wanru stared wide-eyed at the murals, her heart filled with shock and fear. She couldn't help but wonder, was this the fate they were about to face? The dangers in this underground palace seemed endless, and now an even greater disaster was foreshadowed. Could they really escape this predicament? She instinctively moved closer to Huanmo, gripping his arm tightly, as if only in this way could she gain some sense of security.

Huanmo's expression was equally grave, his gaze fixed on the murals, trying to decipher more information from them. He was secretly worried; he had thought that coming to this secret chamber with Qingwan would offer temporary refuge, but unexpectedly, they had fallen into an even more mysterious and unpredictable prophecy. He knew that no matter what, he had to protect Wanru, but faced with this unknown and immense disaster, he felt his own power was so insignificant. However, he couldn't show the slightest sign of retreat, so he gently patted Wanru's hand, offering her a word of comfort.

The man in white, holding a jade flute, frowned deeply, lost in thought. He had experienced many trials in this mysterious underground palace, and thought he had gained some understanding of its mysteries. Yet, the content depicted in these murals made him feel as if he knew nothing at all. What was this momentous event about to unfold? And how should he deal with it? His mind was filled with questions, but he could find no answers.

The white tiger lay quietly to the side, its blue eyes also fixed on the mural, occasionally letting out a low roar, as if it too sensed the danger contained within.

Qingwan sighed softly. She put down the spirit pearl in her hand, walked slowly to the murals, and gently stroked the flowing images, a trace of sorrow in her eyes. "These murals are ancient prophecies of this underground palace. Each appearance signifies a major event concerning life and death that is about to occur. The last time they appeared, this underground palace was almost destroyed. Now... I'm afraid it will be another calamity."

Huanmo snapped out of her daze and asked, "Is there any way to stop this disaster? Or at least to ensure our own safety during this catastrophe?"

Qingwan shook her head. "I don't know exactly what to do either. But I know that this golden box might be the key. Since it could exert such magical power before, it might also play a role in this disaster. However, we still need to figure out how to use it."

Upon hearing this, Wanru felt a glimmer of hope. She looked at the golden box placed to the side and said, "Then let's quickly examine this box again. Maybe we can find some clues."

Everyone nodded in agreement, and then sat around the stone platform, focusing their attention once again on the golden box.

Under the light of the spirit pearl, the golden box still radiated a mysterious glow, and the strange symbols engraved on it seemed to be dancing, as if trying to tell a story.

The man in white carefully examined the symbols, trying to find some patterns or meanings. Huanmo pondered the scene of the golden box's earlier function, hoping to gain some inspiration. Wanru was not idle either; she closed her eyes, concentrated, and tried to feel the connection with the golden box again, just like when she manipulated the crystal ball in the stone chamber.

Time passed slowly in the tense atmosphere, but they still hadn't found any useful clues from the golden box.

Just as everyone was feeling somewhat discouraged, a faint buzzing sound suddenly rang out in the secret chamber. The sound seemed to come from all directions, initially very weak, but gradually becoming louder.

Huanmo stood up alertly, gripped his sword tightly, and looked around. "What's that sound? Everyone be careful!"

Wanru was also frightened and stood up, hiding behind Huanmo. Her heart began to pound violently again.

The man in white also stood up, holding a jade flute, ready to deal with any potential dangers.

The white tiger also stood up, arched its body, and let out a low roar, ready to pounce on the unknown enemy at any moment.

As the buzzing grew louder, small cracks began to appear in the walls of the sealed room, and dust began to fall down.

Qingwan's expression changed, and she said, "This is bad! This sound is probably the prelude to disaster. We must leave here immediately and find a safer place!"

Huanmo looked around and asked, "Then which way do we go? It seems there are no other exits here."

Qingwan gritted her teeth and said, "We can only go out the way we came in and then find another way out."

With no other choice, the group hurriedly retreated from the secret chamber under the White Tiger's guidance and headed back along the passage they had come from.

The passageway remained dimly lit, but now carried an air of panic. People hurried along, their hearts pounding, each worried about when and how the impending disaster would strike.

As they were nearing the end of the passage, suddenly, a powerful force pushed them from behind.

Huanmo, Wanru, the man in white, and Qingwan were all pushed forward by this force and almost fell to the ground.

The white tiger was also affected by this force. It let out a roar and tried to steady itself, but still slid forward a distance.

Before they could even regain their footing, a massive barrier appeared at the end of the passage, emitting an eerie light and completely blocking their path.

"What...what's going on?" Wanru cried out in terror.

Huanmo tried to attack the barrier with his sword, but when the sword struck it, it only made a crisp sound, and the barrier did not budge.

The man in white also tried to use the power of the jade flute to break through the barrier, but to no avail.

Qingwan looked anxiously at everything before her and said, "This barrier is a defense mechanism triggered by the disaster. It's preventing us from leaving, and it's probably going to trap us here and make us face the disaster together."

Just as everyone was in despair, the golden box suddenly emitted a dazzling light again, which shot straight towards the barrier and formed a small vortex on it.

As the vortex spun, a small opening appeared in the barrier, just big enough for one person to pass through.

Huanmo made a quick decision and said, "Everyone, don't just stand there, get out of this hole right now!"

After saying that, he pulled Wanru along and crawled out of the hole first.

The man in white followed closely behind, and Qingwan, holding the spirit pearl, quickly passed through the cave entrance.

The white tiger was the last to pass through, and the moment it did, the cave entrance suddenly closed, and the barrier returned to its original state.

Just as everyone breathed a sigh of relief, they found themselves in an unfamiliar place. All around was a hazy, gray fog, obscuring everything and allowing only strange sounds, as if something were moving through the mist.
