Chapter 37 Mysterious Sound Source and Unknown Challenges
Chapter 37 Mysterious Sound Source and Unknown Challenges
In the silent ruins, a low, rumbling sound, like muffled thunder, echoed continuously in the air, making everyone's hearts leap into their throats once more. The dust gradually settled, but everything remained hazy, with only the cracked walls around them vaguely visible, as if silently recounting the violent turmoil that had just occurred.
Despite the pain in his back, Huanmo kept his eyes fixed on the direction from which the sound came, his heart filled with vigilance and doubt. He knew that beneath this calm lay a far more terrifying danger. Having just endured the double ordeal of the shaking ruins and the puppet attack, they were already exhausted, yet they dared not let their guard down in the face of this unknown situation. "What on earth is making that sound? Could there be even more powerful mechanisms or monsters within these ruins?" Huanmo pondered to himself, his brows furrowing even deeper.
Wanru clung tightly to Huanmo's side, her hands trembling slightly. The sight of Huanmo being injured still lingered in her mind. Now, gazing into the blurry depths, her eyes were filled with fear. "Huanmo, I'm so scared. This place is so terrifying. Will we... never get out?" Her voice trembled with tears, sounding especially helpless in the silent environment.
The man in white, holding a jade flute, looked grave. He gently patted Huanmo's shoulder and said, "Don't panic. Listen to what's happening first, then make a plan." But deep down, he wasn't sure either. This ruin was eerie, and every turn of events had exceeded his expectations. Qingwan clutched the spirit pearl tightly. Its light was dim in the low light. She bit her lip, trying to calm herself, but the constant buzzing sound made her heart race uncontrollably.
The white tiger remained by their side, its blue eyes scanning the surroundings warily, occasionally letting out a low growl as if warning of any unknown threat.
As the buzzing grew louder, the air seemed to vibrate. Suddenly, a blinding light shot out from the depths of the ruins, as dazzling as the sun, and everyone instinctively shielded their eyes. When the light subsided slightly, they looked closely and saw a huge metallic object slowly emerging from the depths.
The metallic object resembled a giant gear, several stories high, covered in strange patterns and shimmering runes. It whirred incessantly, emitting a buzzing sound. Surrounding the gear were smaller mechanical devices, orbiting it like satellites, occasionally emitting streaks of blue lightning that crackled and flickered in the air.
Upon seeing this, everyone gasped in shock. Huanmo inwardly groaned; he had thought that defeating the puppet would allow him a moment's respite, but he hadn't expected such a powerful creature to be hidden within these ruins. He clenched his fists, and despite his weakness, he had no choice but to brace himself and prepare for the challenge. "Everyone be careful, this thing looks tough!" Huanmo shouted.
Wanru was terrified, her face turning pale. She hid behind Huanmo, clutching his clothes tightly as if they were her only support. The man in white quickly brought the jade flute to his lips and began to play a more complex and mysterious melody, attempting to use its power to explore the secrets of the massive metal object and see if he could find its weakness. Qingwan also concentrated, maximizing the power of the spirit pearl to create an even stronger protective barrier in front of them, although she knew that this barrier might not last long against such a powerful object.
The white tiger arched its body, poised to pounce, its blue eyes fixed on the massive gear, ready to deliver a fatal blow at any moment.
However, the giant gear seemed to sense their presence. It suddenly accelerated its rotation, and the surrounding small mechanical devices also started operating wildly, spewing out increasingly dense blue electric light, like a blue electric net enveloping the group.
Unable to dodge in time, everyone was struck by the blue lightning, instantly feeling a tingling sensation spread throughout their bodies, causing them to tremble involuntarily. Huanmo gritted his teeth, enduring the pain, and tried to rush forward to fight the gear in close combat, but after taking only a few steps, he was struck by an even stronger bolt of lightning, falling to the ground and his vision going black.
"Huanmo!" Wanru exclaimed, trying to rush over to help him up, but was pulled back by the man in white. "Don't go, it's too dangerous!" the man in white shouted, but his voice was hoarse from the electric shock.
Qingwan watched as the protective barrier crumbled under the impact of the blue lightning, her heart filled with despair. She tried her best to maintain the power of the spirit orb, but it felt like a mantis trying to stop a chariot, completely unable to withstand this powerful attack.
Just as everyone was in dire straits, the giant gear suddenly emitted a sharp whistling sound, as if sending some kind of signal. Immediately afterwards, a group of metal golems surged out from other directions of the ruins. These golems were different from the previous ones; they shimmered with blue light, moved more nimbly, and had sharper weapons.
Everyone's hearts tightened; their already difficult situation had become even worse. Huanmo struggled to his feet, staring at the newly appeared puppets and the still-frantically spinning giant gears, his heart filled with resentment and anger. "Are we really going to perish here?" he roared inwardly, but aloud he still encouraged everyone, "Don't give up, we will definitely find a way to break through!"
Wanru wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes. She knew this wasn't the time to cry; she had to be strong and face this predicament with Huanmo and the others. She picked up a stone from the ground, held it tightly in her hand, and prepared to do her part to protect everyone at a crucial moment.
The man in white took a deep breath, stopping his jade flute playing. His gaze swept back and forth between the giant gears and the horde of puppets, trying to find a glimmer of hope in this desperate situation. Qingwan also put away her spirit pearl. She knew the protective barrier was no longer effective; now they needed to take the initiative and find a way to break through it.
The white tiger roared again and pounced on the group of puppets, determined to use its ferocity to create a breakthrough for everyone.
Just as the White Tiger was entangled with the puppets, Huanmo suddenly noticed that the runes on one part of the giant gear were flickering abnormally as it spun at high speed, as if that was its weak point. A thought struck him, and ignoring his injuries, he rushed towards that direction.
Seeing this, the man in white understood Huanmo's intention. He quickly followed, playing his jade flute again, this time with a more stirring melody, as if cheering Huanmo on. Qingwan cast spells from behind, providing some assistance to Huanmo and the man in white, allowing them to more easily approach the weak point of the giant gear.
Wanru watched their actions nervously, her palms sweating, silently praying for their success.
However, just as Huanmo and the man in white were about to reach the weak point, the giant gear seemed to sense their intentions. It suddenly stopped turning, and all the small mechanical devices around it also stopped operating. The entire ruins instantly fell silent.
Everyone was taken aback, wondering what had caused the sudden silence. Just as they were wondering, the runes on the giant gear began to flash with an eerie light, and a huge wave of energy emanated from the gear, sweeping towards them.
