Chapter 45 Energy Wave Impact and Unexpected Turn of Events
Chapter 45 Energy Wave Impact and Unexpected Turn of Events
The enormous energy wave emanating from the pillar, like a ferocious prehistoric beast with its gaping maw, surged towards Huanmo and the others with a world-destroying aura. In an instant, the entire forest seemed to be enveloped by this powerful force, the air becoming incredibly heavy, as if frozen, making it almost impossible to breathe.
Huanmo stared wide-eyed at the oncoming energy wave, a deep despair welling up inside him. He knew that in their current exhausted and injured state, trying to directly resist this energy wave was tantamount to throwing an egg against a rock. The glimmer of hope that had just been ignited was now cruelly crushed by this merciless reality. "Are we really going to die here? No, I'm not resigned to this! Wanru is still waiting for me, everyone is counting on me! I must find a way!" Huanmo roared inwardly. Although his body was extremely weak and his legs felt like they weighed a ton, his eyes still shone with determination. He clutched the crystal object tightly in his hand, as if it were his last straw.
Wanru covered her mouth tightly, staring in horror at the energy wave. Tears welled in her eyes, but she dared not cry out, afraid of affecting Huanmo and the others. Her body trembled violently, her heart filled with fear and helplessness. "Huanmo, you must be careful... I don't want to lose you. We've been through so much together, it can't end like this..." she prayed silently, her eyes fixed on Huanmo's back, her only support at that moment.
The man in white wore a solemn expression, and the jade flute in his hand trembled slightly. He stopped playing, for playing the flute now seemed futile in the face of impending doom. He knew the power of this energy wave, yet he felt utterly helpless. "Is this our destiny? After all these hardships, we still cannot escape this calamity..." he sighed inwardly, his eyes rapidly scanning the surrounding forest, hoping to find even the slightest chance of escape, even if it was only a one in ten thousand chance.
Qingwan closed her eyes, concentrating all her mental energy, attempting to cast a spell again, using the power of the Spirit Pearl to create a final protective barrier for everyone. She knew it might be futile, but she was unwilling to give up. "Spirit Pearl, please help us one more time, even if it only buys us a second of survival time..." She bit her lip, her forehead covered in fine beads of sweat. The Spirit Pearl emitted a faint but resolute light in her hand, but this light seemed so insignificant in the face of the surging energy waves.
The white tiger growled softly to the side, its blue eyes filled with determination. It arched its back, preparing to shield everyone from the fatal blow with its own body. As a companion who protected everyone, it had long since disregarded life and death, now only thinking of protecting Huanmo and the others, even at the cost of its own life.
However, just as the energy wave was about to engulf everyone, a dazzling light suddenly shot out from the crystal object in Huanmo's hand. This light was a pure white, forming a stark contrast to the destructive aura of the energy wave. It shot towards the energy wave like a sharp sword, and at the moment the two met, the light blazed brightly, actually managing to block the massive energy wave.
Everyone stared in astonishment at this sudden turn of events, their hearts filled with surprise and confusion. Huanmo's eyes widened as well, unable to believe what was happening before his eyes. "What... what's going on? Could this crystal object possess such powerful energy?" he wondered to himself, while secretly letting out a sigh of relief.
Wanru was also stunned. She released her hand from her mouth, her eyes filled with surprise. "Great! We're saved!" she said excitedly, the fear on her face gradually fading, replaced by a glimmer of hope.
A hint of surprise flashed in the white-robed man's eyes. He carefully observed the crystalline object and the light it emitted, trying to figure out its principle. "This crystalline object seems to contain some kind of mysterious and powerful force. Perhaps it is the key to breaking our current predicament," he murmured to himself, the jade flute in his hand no longer trembling, as if he had regained his confidence.
Qingwan opened her eyes and was overjoyed to see that the white light had successfully blocked the energy wave. The light in the spirit pearl in her hand seemed to brighten slightly because of the white light. "No matter where this light came from, it has temporarily saved our lives. Thank goodness," she said softly, a relieved smile on her face.
The white tiger stopped roaring, its blue eyes still showing wariness, but also a hint of confusion. It couldn't understand how this small crystal object could possess such power.
As the white light and energy wave continued to clash, the light in the forest shone even brighter, blinding everyone. After the light subsided, the energy wave gradually dissipated, as if it had never existed.
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief, a huge weight lifted from their shoulders. But they also knew that the forest was still fraught with danger, and they couldn't let their guard down.
"Although we've escaped this calamity for now, we still need to find a way to leave this place as soon as possible. No one knows when the next danger will strike," Huanmo said. His voice was still a little weak, but it had become more determined.
Just as everyone was preparing to discuss their next move, the crystalline object, after resisting the energy wave, gradually dimmed and finally returned to its previous appearance. Huanmo carefully examined it, trying to uncover more secrets from it.
Suddenly, a melodious flute tune drifted from another direction in the forest. The music was ethereal and captivating, seemingly possessing a mesmerizing magic that drew people in completely.
Huanmo and the others were startled and instantly became alert. "This flute music is suspicious, everyone be careful!" Huanmo whispered, clenching his fists as he prepared to deal with any potential danger.
Wanru covered her ears tightly, trying to resist the allure of the flute music. "This sound is so strange, I feel dizzy," she said, frowning and looking uncomfortable.
The man in white paused slightly, sensing an ancient rhythm within the flute's melody, subtly connected to his knowledge of musical scales. "This flute music is not simple; do not let it cloud your judgment," he warned the others, concentrating his attention to uncover the secrets behind the music.
Qingwan closed her eyes tightly and used all her magic to try and build a mental protective barrier for everyone, resisting the influence of the flute music. However, she found that the magic of the flute music seemed to be far beyond her imagination, and her protective barrier seemed somewhat fragile in front of it.
The white tiger was also affected by the flute music. A hint of confusion flashed in its blue eyes, but it quickly came to its senses. It roared angrily, as if to show off to the flute player hidden in the shadows.
Just as everyone was becoming increasingly agitated by the flute music, an elderly man dressed in white slowly emerged from the woods. He had white hair, a kind face, and held a jade flute in his hand—the very source of the music.
“You need not panic, I mean no harm,” the old man said with a smile, his voice peaceful and warm.
Huanmo and the others exchanged glances, their hearts filled with suspicion. "Who are you? Why are you here?" Huanmo asked, his tone clearly distrustful.
The old man smiled gently and said, "I am one of the guardians of this forest. I know of the hardships you have endured here, and I have come to help you."
The crowd remained skeptical, having already encountered too much deception and danger.
Just as everyone hesitated, the old man gently waved his jade flute, and the surrounding trees instantly burst into a kaleidoscope of colors. The lights intertwined, forming a series of images depicting the old man's years of protection and rescue of passersby in the forest.
“You see, what I said is true; I really did come to help you,” the old man said.
As Huanmo and the others watched these scenes, their doubts lessened slightly, but they still couldn't completely believe it.
Just then, the old man's gaze fell on the crystal object in Huanmo's hand. His eyes suddenly became very sharp, as if he had seen something extremely important.
"Where did you get this object?" the old man asked seriously.
Huanmo was taken aback, but answered truthfully, "It was obtained from those mysterious men in black or women in colorful clothes who turned into monsters."
Upon hearing this, the old man's expression turned extremely solemn. He pondered for a moment, then slowly said, "This object is of great importance. It shouldn't be here. If it falls into the hands of evil people, the consequences will be unimaginable. Come with me, and I will take you to a place where we may be able to unlock the secret of this object and allow you to leave this forest safely."
Huanmo and the others exchanged glances, once again caught in a dilemma. Going with the old man might lead to another trap; not going with him, on the other hand, seemed to mean missing the chance to learn the secrets of the crystal artifacts and leave the forest.
