Chapter 51 Crisis and Choices in the Misty Forest
Chapter 51 Crisis and Choices in the Misty Forest
Night fell over the mysterious forest, the fog growing thicker and thicker, like a veil obscuring everything. Huanmo and his group followed behind the man in the green robe, cautiously making their way through the misty forest. With each step, the fallen leaves rustled beneath their feet, the sound particularly clear in the silent night, like a warning from the forest.
Huanmo was filled with vigilance, constantly glancing around. The eerie atmosphere made his palms sweat slightly. He pondered to himself, "Where does this map lead? What dangers lurk ahead? But since I've decided to explore, I can't back down." Wanru clung tightly to Huanmo's clothes, her eyes filled with fear, and whispered, "Huanmo, I'm so scared. This forest feels so eerie." Huanmo gently patted her hand, comforting her, "Don't be afraid, I'm here."
The man in white, holding a jade flute, wore a solemn expression, constantly monitoring his surroundings. He knew the forest's eeriness and dared not let his guard down. Although weak, Qingwan mustered her strength, her eyes searching through the mist, hoping to spot any potential dangers. The white tiger led the way, its blue eyes gleaming sharply in the darkness, occasionally growling softly, as if sensing something amiss.
The man in the green robe led the way, his steps steady and slow, his gaze focused intently ahead, trying to find the right path in the mist. Suddenly, the white tiger stopped, arching its back and letting out a low, drawn-out roar, its entire body on high alert. The group immediately tensed, stopping in their tracks, gripping their weapons or preparing to cast spells.
"What's wrong?" Huanmo asked in a low voice.
The white tiger didn't respond, only staring intently at the thick fog ahead. Just then, a gust of cold wind blew by, and the fog slowly dissipated, gradually revealing a colossal figure. It was a behemoth, its body as large as a mountain, covered in sharp spikes, its eyes like two red lanterns, radiating a ferocious light. It opened its blood-red maw and let out a deafening roar, a sound that seemed to shake the entire forest.
Everyone's hearts leaped into their throats. Huanmo instinctively shielded Wanru behind him and shouted, "Everyone, be careful!" The man in white quickly raised his jade flute, chanting incantations. A beam of light shot out from the flute and flew towards the giant beast. However, the giant beast seemed unafraid of the attack. It simply swung its paw and dispersed the beam of light.
Qingwan gritted her teeth, ignoring her weakness, and cast a spell again, creating a weak spiritual energy barrier in front of everyone. But she knew that this barrier probably wouldn't last long against the giant beast. The man in the green robe frowned, and he began to play his emerald green flute. Beams of green light coiled towards the giant beast, attempting to restrain its movements.
Enraged by the green light, the colossal beast struggled violently, its quills snapping and rattling. It suddenly swung its head and charged at the group. Seeing this, the white tiger pounced without hesitation, engaging the beast in a fierce battle. The white tiger's claws left gashes on the beast's body, but its thick hide proved too strong, and the attacks did little damage.
Huanmo knew he couldn't just sit and wait to die. He drew his sword and charged towards the giant beast. His eyes were resolute as he thought, "I must protect everyone, even if it costs me my life!" Wanru called anxiously from behind, "Huanmo, be careful!"
With everyone working together, the giant beast's attacks were gradually suppressed. However, it remained extremely ferocious, struggling incessantly to escape their attacks. Just then, the man in white suddenly spotted an opening in the beast and shouted, "Attack its eyes!"
Upon hearing this, everyone focused their attacks on the giant beast's eyes. Huanmo seized the opportunity, leaping into the air and thrusting her sword towards the beast's left eye. The beast sensed the danger and tried to dodge, but it was too late. Huanmo's sword pierced the beast's left eye, and the beast roared in pain, violently shaking its head and throwing Huanmo away.
Huanmo fell heavily to the ground, feeling as if all the bones in his body were about to shatter. Wanru rushed over to help him up, anxiously asking, "Huanmo, are you alright?" Huanmo shook his head, enduring the pain as he said, "I'm fine, quickly look at that giant beast."
At this moment, the behemoth, wounded in its left eye, became even more frenzied. It charged towards the group with an overwhelming force, its momentum seemingly intent on crushing them all. Seeing this, the man in the green robe increased the intensity of his flute playing, unleashing even more green light that coiled around the behemoth, attempting to restrain it once more.
Just when everyone thought they were about to face another fierce battle, the giant beast suddenly stopped. Its body began to tremble violently, then it slowly collapsed to the ground with a dull thud. Everyone was stunned, and it took them a while to come to their senses.
"Is it...is it dead?" Wanru asked softly.
"I think so." Huanmo stood up and dusted himself off.
Although the giant beast was defeated, the group did not let their guard down. They knew that new dangers could arise at any moment in this misty forest.
The man in the green robe looked at everyone and said, "Is everyone alright? We need to continue our journey; we can't stay here any longer."
The group nodded and continued following the man in the green robe into the misty forest. As they ventured deeper, the fog seemed to grow even more eerie, sometimes so thick that they could barely see the path, and other times it would suddenly disperse, revealing strangely shaped trees and gloomy caves.
Huanmo grew increasingly uneasy. He felt as if the whole thing was a huge mystery, and they were sinking deeper and deeper into it. He didn't know where the map would ultimately lead them, nor what awaited them. But he told himself that he had to persevere no matter what, for Wanru, for everyone, and to uncover the secret behind it all.
After walking for a while, they came to a fork in the road. The map didn't clearly indicate which way to go, and the group was immediately faced with a difficult decision.
The man in the green robe looked at the two forks in the road, pondered for a moment, and then said, "Both of these roads look dangerous. We need to think about it carefully."
Huanmo walked to the fork in the road and carefully observed the two paths. The path on the left looked darker and the fog was thicker, while the path on the right seemed to have some faint light, but it also had an indescribable eeriness.
Wanru hesitated for a moment before asking, "Which road should we take?"
The man in white frowned and said, "This is indeed a difficult decision. Taking the wrong path could lead to even greater danger."
Just as everyone was hesitating, a strange sound came from the left. The sound was like someone crying, or like the roar of some unknown creature, sending chills down their spines.
All eyes turned to the road on the left, and a chill ran through them.
"How about we take the right-hand path?" Qingwan suggested weakly.
But just then, a dark shadow suddenly flashed across the right side of the road. It was so fast that before anyone could see what it was, the shadow disappeared.
Now, the group was even more perplexed; both paths seemed to conceal immense danger. What should they choose? Should they bravely walk the left path, the one from which the crying came, or opt for the right path, which appeared bright but also carried an eerie atmosphere?
Not far behind them, in a large tree, a pair of eyes hidden among the leaves were silently watching their every move, their eyes gleaming with an eerie light, as if waiting for some opportunity.
