Chapter 59 Tracing the Spring and Exploring the Cave
Chapter 59 Tracing the Spring and Exploring the Cave
Amidst the roars of the two-headed beast, the group raced with all their might toward the end of the valley. The path through the valley was rugged and uneven, littered with rocks and potholes of varying sizes. They hurried along, yet dared not slacken their pace for a moment, lest they be overtaken by the ferocious beast behind them.
The sky above the valley grew increasingly gloomy, the dark clouds seeming to press down as if on the verge of a downpour. The howling wind swept through the valley, its sharp whistles urging the group to quicken their pace, or perhaps lamenting their impending doom. In the dim light, the statues on the mountainside appeared even more sinister, as if they too were watching the group's panicked escape, cold and indifferent.
Trapped within the jade box's light, Huanmo's body swayed with the others' running, his heart filled with guilt and anxiety. "It's all because of me that everyone is desperately fleeing for their lives. What will we do if we really can't find the ancient artifact?" He kept blaming himself, his eyes fixed on the road ahead, hoping to reach the legendary spring and cave as soon as possible and find a way to rescue himself and the others.
Wanru followed beside Huanmo, her face flushed red from running. She kept glancing back, her eyes filled with fear; the terrifying image of the two-headed beast was still vividly etched in her mind. She felt both afraid and relieved—afraid that the beast would catch up again, but relieved that her sachet had temporarily worked. "I hope we really can find the ancient artifact ahead, so everyone can be safe," she prayed silently.
The woman in black robes ran at the front, her eyes sharp, constantly watching her surroundings. She gripped her black flute tightly, ready for any eventuality. She knew the mission to find the ancient artifact was arduous and time-sensitive; the suppression time mentioned by the aged voice was limited, and missing it would have unimaginable consequences. "I must find it as soon as possible, or we'll all perish here," she thought to herself, quickening her pace.
The man in white held a jade flute, his expression a mixture of exhaustion and determination. His recent battle with the two-headed beast had significantly depleted his spiritual energy, but he couldn't afford to worry about that now. His only thought was to find the divine artifact, extricate Huanmo from his predicament, and get everyone out of danger. "This valley is strangely shrouded in eeriness. Could the divine artifact really be in the cave by that spring? But no matter what, I have to try," he thought as he ran.
The man in the green robe and Qingwan supported each other, their steps heavy. Their spiritual energy was nearly depleted, and their bodies were exhausted, but for survival, for their companion, they gritted their teeth and persevered. "Just a little longer, maybe we'll be there soon," the man in the green robe softly encouraged Qingwan, though he was also trying to bolster his own spirits.
The white tiger followed closely behind the group. Although it had been injured in the fight with the two-headed beast, it remained vigilant, its blue eyes constantly scanning the area behind it in case the beast suddenly pursued them.
With everyone running with all their might, a clear, bright color finally appeared in the distance. As they drew closer, the sound of a clear spring flowing gently reached their ears; the sound was like heavenly music, bringing a sense of relief to their hearts.
"Look, it's a clear spring!" Wanru exclaimed in surprise.
The group quickened their pace and arrived at the spring. The spring water was crystal clear, shining like a soft pearl in the dimly lit valley. The ground around the spring was covered in lush green grass, a stark contrast to the other barren landscape of the valley. Beside it, on the mountainside, was a small cave, its entrance partially obscured by vines, exuding a mysterious aura.
"The artifact should be in that cave," the woman in black said. She stopped, slightly out of breath, her eyes fixed on the cave.
The group gathered around the spring, rested briefly, and then prepared to enter the cave to explore its secrets.
Huanmo gazed at the cave, his heart filled with both anticipation and nervousness. "I hope there really is an ancient artifact in this cave that can restore everything to normal," he thought to himself.
Wanru walked to the spring, squatted down, scooped up a handful of water, and washed her face. The cool spring water invigorated her. She stood up, looked at everyone, and said, "Everyone, drink some spring water to replenish your strength. There might be more dangers when we enter the cave later."
Everyone nodded and took turns drinking from the spring. The spring water was sweet to the taste, as if it carried a magical power that relieved their tired bodies and low spirits.
After resting for a while, the woman in black robes entered the cave first. The cave was pitch black, and a damp, musty smell filled the air. She took out a luminous pearl from her bosom, and its light illuminated a small area around them, allowing everyone to barely see the path beneath their feet.
The cave walls were covered in moss, and water droplets seeped through in some places, dripping and echoing in the silent cave, adding to the eerie atmosphere. The group walked cautiously, their eyes scanning their surroundings warily.
After walking for a while, a fork in the road appeared ahead, with two paths leading in different directions.
"Which way should we go?" the man in the green robe asked, frowning.
The group looked at each other, unsure of what to do.
The woman in black carefully examined the two passages, trying to find clues in the walls, the floor, or the air. Suddenly, she noticed some blurry patterns carved on the wall of the left passage, patterns that seemed to have some connection to the statues she had seen earlier in the valley.
"Let's go to the left. I think there might be clues here," the woman in black said.
Although the group had some doubts, they had no better choice at the moment, so they followed the woman in black into the passage on the left.
As the group ventured deeper, the passage became increasingly narrow, and the overhead rocks seemed to drop lower, creating a somewhat oppressive atmosphere. Moreover, gusts of cold wind would occasionally whistle through the cracks in the walls, their biting chill causing everyone to shiver.
Just when everyone was feeling a bit overwhelmed, a strange sound suddenly came from ahead, like someone chanting softly, or like the roar of some unknown creature.
"Everyone be careful, there might be something ahead!" the woman in black robes whispered a warning.
Everyone stopped in their tracks, gripped their weapons tightly, and mobilized the remaining spiritual energy within their bodies to prepare for any potential dangers.
The sound grew closer and clearer, and everyone's hearts were in their throats.
Finally, at the end of the passage, a huge stone platform appeared. On the platform sat an object emitting a strange light, so bright and dazzling that it enveloped the entire platform.
"Could this be an ancient artifact?" the man in white asked in surprise.
With a mix of excitement and nervousness, the group slowly walked toward the stone platform.
However, just as the group was about to reach the stone platform, an invisible barrier suddenly appeared in front of them, blocking their path.
"What...what's going on?" Wanru asked anxiously.
The group tried to attack the barrier with weapons and break through it with their spiritual power, but the barrier remained unmoved and indestructible.
Just when everyone was at their wits' end, the old voice came from behind the barrier again: "To obtain the divine artifact, you must break its curse. This curse is closely related to the truth you seek. If you do not break the curse, you will never obtain the divine artifact, and you will also find it difficult to escape your predicament."
The sound gradually faded, leaving everyone in deeper confusion and worry. How could this curse be broken? What truth were they seeking? And could that ancient artifact truly save Huanmo and lead them to a real way out?
