Chapter 106 Temple Crisis and the Search for Divine Artifacts
The woman in black robes, the man in white, and Ling'er felt their hearts leap into their throats as the commotion outside the temple grew closer. The once tranquil and mysterious atmosphere inside the temple was instantly shattered by this sudden tension, as if an invisible hand was slowly tightening its grip, making it hard for them to breathe.
The woman in black gripped her sword tightly, her gaze fixed on the temple gate, her heart filled with worry. She thought about how they had finally made it this far, and Ling'er seemed to have learned some crucial clues; she couldn't let anything go wrong at this critical juncture. If those unknown things outside were to break in, their spiritual energy hadn't fully recovered, and their chances of survival were slim. She gritted her teeth, silently resolving to protect Ling'er and the man in white no matter what, even if it cost her her last ounce of strength.
The man in white also looked grave, holding his jade flute horizontally in front of him. While preparing for battle, he also spared a moment to observe his surroundings, trying to find any usable terrain or traps to deal with the impending danger. He knew that every crisis they had faced along the way had been a near-death experience, and this time would likely be no exception. But they had no way out and could only grit their teeth and press on.
Ling'er, however, remained engrossed in the ancient scroll, her gaze focused, seemingly oblivious to the commotion outside. It was as if the contents of the scroll were far more important than the imminent danger. Her face showed no sign of panic, only a stubbornness that defied comprehension, as if following the scroll's instructions would render all danger insignificant.
As the sound grew louder, with a loud crash, the temple gate was violently flung open by a powerful force, sending splinters flying and raising a cloud of dust. Through the dust, they saw a group of mysterious figures dressed in strange black robes, their faces completely obscured by hoods, appearing in the doorway. These mysterious figures exuded an eerie aura that sent chills down their spines.
"Who are you? Why have you trespassed here?" the woman in black robes shouted, mustering her courage. But the mysterious figures did not respond. They simply approached them silently, their silent pressure making the air in the entire temple seem to freeze.
The mysterious figure drew closer, and just as they were about to reach them, they suddenly attacked simultaneously, unleashing beams of black spiritual energy towards the three. The woman in black robes and the man in white quickly retaliated. The woman in black robes brandished her sword, deflecting each incoming beam of energy; the sword clashed with the spiritual energy, sparks flying. The man in white played his jade flute, his spiritual energy transforming into beams of light to try and block the mysterious figure's attacks. However, the opponent outnumbered them, and the attacks came wave after wave, gradually overwhelming them.
Ling'er seemed to snap out of her daze. She carefully tucked the scroll into her bosom, glanced at the mysterious figures, a cold glint in her eyes, and with a gentle wave of her small hand, a five-colored light surged from her body. The light instantly transformed into several ropes, wrapping around the mysterious figures. The mysterious figures seemed to have not expected Ling'er to have such abilities, and several of them were instantly entangled in the ropes, unable to move.
"Hmph, let's see if you still dare to be arrogant!" The woman in black robes was overjoyed at the sight and seized the opportunity to swing her sword at the entangled mysterious figures, hoping to take them down and relieve some pressure. However, the mysterious figures were extremely cunning. Their black robes surged, and they broke free from the ropes binding them. They then quickly retreated, readjusted their formation, and surrounded them again.
"These guys are tough to deal with!" the man in white said, frowning. His forehead was covered with fine beads of sweat. The depletion of his spiritual energy made his body feel increasingly heavy, but the crisis before him showed no signs of abating.
The woman in black was extremely anxious. She knew that if things continued like this, they would eventually be defeated by these mysterious figures, but she couldn't think of any good solutions. Just then, she suddenly noticed what appeared to be a hidden door behind the temple statues. The door was extremely well hidden, almost invisible without careful observation, and it even bore faint runes similar to those on scrolls. Perhaps that was the key to escaping or continuing the search for clues to the lost artifact.
"There's a hidden door over there, let's rush that way!" the woman in black shouted, charging towards the back of the statue. The man in white and Ling'er quickly followed. Seeing them about to run away, the mysterious man immediately sped up to catch up. In an instant, the sounds of footsteps and clashing spiritual energy mingled together within the temple, creating utter chaos.
The three ran towards the hidden door with all their might. Fortunately, the distance wasn't too far, and they soon arrived at it. The man in white had no time to think; he poured all his remaining spiritual energy into the runes on the hidden door. The runes flickered a few times, and the hidden door slowly opened. A cool aura surged out from within. It was pitch black inside, and they couldn't see anything, but they had no time to hesitate.
The woman in black robes pulled Ling'er and rushed into the hidden door first, followed closely by the man in white. After they had all entered, the hidden door closed automatically with a "bang," temporarily keeping the mysterious people outside.
They finally breathed a sigh of relief, leaning against the wall of the hidden door, panting heavily. The feeling of surviving a disaster made their hearts pound for a long time. But before they could recover, Ling'er took out a scroll from her bosom and examined it by the dim light. Then she pointed ahead and said, "According to the records in the scroll, the lost artifact should be at the end of this passage. We have to keep going."
The woman in black robes and the man in white looked in the direction Ling'er pointed. The passage was deep and dark, like a bottomless black hole, hiding countless unknown dangers. But the thought of the lost artifact that could unravel all mysteries and change everything rekindled a glimmer of hope in them.
What other dangers await them in this passage? Does the legendary lost artifact truly exist, and what does it look like? Will they be able to reach the end of the passage and find the artifact? Everything remains unknown. Filled with hope and trepidation, they once again step into this unknown darkness, waiting to uncover the secrets hidden at the end…
