Chapter 118 The Passage Crisis and Mysterious Aura

Chapter 118 The Passage Crisis and Mysterious Aura

The woman in black robes, the man in white, Ling'er, and the old man in gray robes hurried along the deep, dark passage. A pungent, putrid stench permeated the air, as if no living creature had ventured there in a long time. The surrounding walls were damp, with water droplets constantly seeping out and dripping down. In this silent and eerie environment, the sounds were exceptionally clear, each one seeming to strike a chord in their hearts, making the already tense atmosphere even more oppressive.

The woman in black robes, sword in hand, led the way, her wary gaze sweeping across the darkness ahead, her heart pounding with anxiety. She thought to herself, "I finally dealt with that Black Flame Nether Beast, and then broke through the rune barrier. I was almost at the point of obtaining the divine artifact key to leave this hellish place, but then this ominous noise appeared in the passage. There's no peace for a moment. But I've come this far; there's no turning back. I can only grit my teeth and keep going." She tightened her grip on the sword hilt, her steps quick yet cautious, afraid of triggering any hidden dangers.

The man in white, holding Ling'er's hand, followed closely behind. His jade flute was poised to be used in his other hand, its spiritual energy subtly surging. His brow was furrowed, his face grave. He thought to himself, "The journey has been fraught with peril, one crisis after another. I thought we could escape this time, but I underestimated the danger of this place. I wonder what kind of evil creature made that eerie howling sound. I hope we can handle it together." He glanced down at Ling'er, seeing her pale face, and gently patted her shoulder, giving her a reassuring look to reassure her.

Ling'er clutched the white-robed man's robes, tightly holding the ancient scroll in her arms. Her large eyes were filled with terror, yet she struggled to hold back her tears. She silently prayed, "May all the gods protect us! Please don't let us encounter anything too terrible. I hope this passage will end soon so we can get out safely." She kept glancing back at the gray-robed old man behind her; seeing his solemn expression, her unease only intensified.

The gray-robed old man, leaning on his cane, brought up the rear to protect the group. His gaze was fixed intently on the depths of the passage, towards the direction from which the howling sound came from, a vague sense of foreboding creeping into his heart. He knew all too well that this mysterious place was shrouded in eeriness, and that often beneath a seemingly calm surface lay deadly dangers. At this moment, he could only be on high alert, ready to deal with any unexpected situation at any moment.

As they ventured deeper into the passage, the howling sound grew ever closer, as if something was rapidly approaching them. Suddenly, a chilling wind swept through, sending shivers down their spines. The wind carried wisps of black mist, which reeked of decay and felt icy cold against their skin.

The woman in black robes was startled and shouted, "Everyone be careful! This fog is strange!" She brandished her sword, trying to dispel the fog, but it seemed to possess a life of its own, avoiding the blades and coiling towards them. Seeing this, the man in white quickly played his jade flute. A clear melody rang out, transforming into waves of spiritual energy that surged towards the fog. However, the fog only dispersed slightly before quickly gathering again, becoming even denser.

Ling'er anxiously flipped through the book, trying to find a way to deal with the fog. Her little hands turned the pages faster and faster, and fine beads of sweat appeared on her forehead. She muttered, "There must be something, there must be something..."

Just as everyone was entangled in the fog and somewhat flustered, several blurry figures appeared in the distance. These figures were elusive, like ghosts, appearing and disappearing in the fog, and occasionally letting out shrill screams that sent chills down everyone's spines.

A chill ran through the woman in black robes, but she forced herself to remain calm and said, "No matter what they are, we can't be intimidated by them! Charge!" With that, she charged towards the figures, her sword radiating spiritual energy as she slashed at the nearest one. But the blade struck the figure as if it had hit thin air, causing no real damage. Instead, the figure emitted a shrill laugh that echoed through the passage, sounding particularly jarring.

The man in white frowned and shouted, "These are spirits! Ordinary attacks are useless against them. We have to use spiritual power to directly attack their spirit cores!" With that, he gathered his spiritual power into his jade flute and shot it towards the head of one of the spirits, precisely where its spirit core was located. The attack was indeed effective; the spirit, struck, let out a scream and instantly vanished into thin air.

Seeing this, everyone followed the white-robed man's example and launched attacks on the spirits. In an instant, the passageway was filled with flashes of spiritual energy, screams and howls mingled together in utter chaos.

After a fierce battle, they finally eliminated all the spirits, but before they could catch their breath, the ground in the passage suddenly began to shake violently, and cracks spread out from under their feet, as if something huge was about to emerge from the ground.

The woman in black steadied herself, her face turning extremely grim. She said, "When will this ever end? One danger after another!" The man in white also looked exhausted, but shook his head helplessly.

Just then, an even more powerful and mysterious aura emanated from the end of the passage. The aura was cold and ancient, making one feel as if they were in a primordial land, facing an unknown fear from the depths of time. The group exchanged glances, each seeing deep worry and fear in the other's eyes.

What is the source of this mysterious aura? And will they be able to escape danger once again and successfully leave this perilous passage with the key to the divine artifact? Everything remains uncertain. They can only continue to struggle for survival amidst these perils, awaiting their fate…
