Chapter 297 Rune Anomalies, Perilous Situations Abound

The runes on the walls shone with an increasingly intense light, almost blinding everyone. The once silent passage was suddenly illuminated as if it were daytime, the shimmering runes intertwining to create strange light and shadow that constantly shifted and changed shape on the walls. Huanmo's heart tightened, a mixture of anticipation and tension in his voice: "This mysterious stone has indeed worked, but what will happen next? Whether it's a blessing or a curse remains to be seen." He instinctively gripped his sword, watching the changes on the walls warily.

Wanru squinted slightly, trying to see the unusual movement of the runes, and muttered, "Hopefully this is the right direction to the second key, and that no more terrifying monsters will appear." Ying stood to the side, her eyes sharp, staring intently at the wall in the light, ready to deal with any unexpected situation.

As the light flickered, the runes on the wall began to slowly move and rearrange. Everyone watched this wondrous scene with bated breath, their hearts filled with curiosity. Yi Chen murmured, "The arrangement of these runes seems to follow some mysterious pattern. Could this be the password to open the hidden passage?"

After a while, the runes rearranged, revealing a deep passage in the wall. A light mist filled the passage, obscuring its contents. Huanmo took a deep breath and said, "Whatever's inside, we have to go in and see. The second key might be inside." Everyone nodded and followed Huanmo, cautiously stepping into the new passage.

Upon entering the passage, the group was enveloped in a thick fog, reducing visibility to almost zero. A damp and rotten stench permeated the air, making them want to vomit. The ground beneath their feet was uneven and pitted, with the occasional sound of loose stones rolling around. Huanmo thought to himself, "This passage is so eerie; it must be fraught with danger. We must be extremely careful."

Ling'er clung tightly to the guardian's robes, her voice trembling as she said, "This place is so scary. I feel like something is watching us." The guardian gently patted Ling'er's shoulder, comforting her, "Don't be afraid, I'm here." Wanru, meanwhile, intensified her sword energy to prepare for any potential dangers.

The group groped their way forward through the mist when suddenly, a rustling sound came from the depths of the passage, as if countless insects were crawling. Huanmo's heart skipped a beat, and he stopped, signaling everyone to be quiet. He listened carefully to the source of the sound, trying to pinpoint the direction of the danger. "This sound doesn't seem like normal creatures. Could it be a mechanism in this passage? Or some kind of unknown monster?" Huanmo was filled with doubt.

Ying whispered, "Huanmo, I feel this sound is coming from ahead of us; there might be danger." Huanmo nodded, gripped his sword tightly, and slowly walked towards the direction the sound came from. The others followed closely behind, each holding their breath, their nerves on edge.

Just as everyone approached the source of the sound, a dark figure suddenly darted out of the mist with incredible speed. Huanmo reacted swiftly, immediately swinging her sword at the figure. The figure nimbly dodged Huanmo's attack, then turned and lunged at Wanru. Wanru hurriedly unleashed her sword energy to defend, but the figure's strength was beyond her expectations, and she was forced back several steps.

"What is that thing? How can it be so powerful!" Wanru shouted as she parried the attacks from the dark figure. Huanmo and Ying quickly flanked from both sides, attempting to attack the dark figure from both sides. The guardians protected Ling'er, Yichen, and the woman in white from behind, preventing them from being attacked.

In the midst of the fierce battle, the group gradually came to see the shadowy figure clearly. It turned out to be a monster with the body of a wolf, but its entire body was covered in black scales. Its eyes emitted an eerie green light and were filled with an evil aura.

The monster's attacks grew increasingly fierce. It moved with incredible speed, weaving through the group and making it impossible for them to defend themselves. Although Huanmo and the others occasionally managed to hit the monster, its scales were incredibly hard, causing negligible damage. Moreover, each of the monster's attacks carried immense power, gradually putting the group at a disadvantage.

Huanmo's arm was scratched by the monster's claws, and blood flowed freely. He gritted his teeth, enduring the pain to continue fighting, thinking to himself, "This won't do. We have to find its weakness, or we'll all be done for today." Wanru and Ying were also exhausted; their spiritual energy was greatly depleted, and their attacks were becoming weaker and weaker.

Just when everyone was feeling hopeless, Yi Chen suddenly noticed that the monster would pause briefly after each attack. An idea struck him, and he shouted, "Everyone, pay attention! The monster pauses after each attack. Let's attack it during that time!" Hearing this, hope was rekindled in everyone's hearts.

When the monster attacked again, Huanmo seized the opportunity, leaping forward and thrusting her sword into the monster's abdomen. Ying and Wanru quickly followed, attacking the monster from the left and right sides respectively. Struck by the group's attacks, the monster let out a painful roar and swayed a few times.

Seizing the opportunity, everyone launched a full-scale attack on the monster. Yi Chen and the woman in white also unleashed powerful spells from behind, amplifying the group's offensive power. Under the onslaught, the monster gradually succumbed, wounds appearing on its body from which black blood flowed continuously.

The monster's attacks weakened, and its movements became sluggish. Seeing this, Huanmo was overjoyed: "Now! We can definitely defeat it!" He gathered all his spiritual power and thrust it towards the monster's head. The monster tried to dodge, but it was too late; Huanmo's sword struck its head precisely.

The monster let out a scream, its body collapsed to the ground, and remained motionless. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and collapsed to the ground, utterly exhausted.

After resting for a while and regaining some strength, the group continued deeper into the passage. Soon, they reached the end of the passage. At the end stood a massive iron gate, also covered in mysterious runes.

Huanmo stared at the iron gate, his mind filled with doubt: "What is hidden behind this iron gate? Is it a second key, or an even greater danger? And how can we open this iron gate?" The group gathered in front of the iron gate, trying to find a way to open it, but the runes on the iron gate were too complicated, and they were at a loss for the time being.

Just as everyone was deep in thought, a low, rumbling sound suddenly came from the passage, as if something enormous was approaching. Everyone was startled, unsure of the source of the tremor or the danger it might bring. Could the iron door be opened? What did the tremors in the passage signify? Everything was shrouded in uncertainty, and their fates were once again in suspense…
