Chapter 51 Sleeping in the same room
Chapter 51 Sleeping in the same room
Before Cui Chou could finish speaking, a thought suddenly flashed through his mind like lightning, and he grasped it tightly.
"You want to see my secret manual because of the knife wound on Bian Yuan's body!"
The words that had been in doubt were instantly confirmed the moment they left his mouth.
He used all his strength when he swung the sword today, without holding back at all, so Bian Yuan's injury must have been quite serious.
This young girl may seem unrestrained and rebellious, but her clear and honest eyes don't lie. Without a special reason, why would she abandon Bian Yuan, who saved her life, and instead come to her? The young girl has only one purpose in coming: she wants to understand the secrets of her swordsmanship and the flow of qi, so as to heal Bian Yuan's wounds.
As he figured it out, a strange sense of unease rose in his heart. He looked at Fei Xi with a glint in his eyes, his expression inscrutable.
"Yes, I came for Senior Bian's injuries, but Senior Cui was once my Qingcheng Sect's savior, so I should do my best to heal Senior Cui's injuries."
Fei Xi knew that she absolutely could not lie when facing intelligent people and needed to be honest. Her serious expression was righteous, and her words sounded just and awe-inspiring, as if treating Cui Chou was her main purpose.
Her response was a cold laugh from Cui Chou, who couldn't resist pinching her cheek hard. Seeing the little girl staring at him with a bewildered expression, her face flushed red, he then said with amusement:
"My swordsmanship has no secret manual, regardless of whether you genuinely want to heal my injuries or have other purposes. Today I can make an exception and demonstrate it to you, but I will only teach you this once. Whether you can remember it and how much of its subtlety you can grasp depends entirely on your own comprehension and skill. Don't expect me to teach you a second time."
When Fei Xi returned to Elder Miao's place, the moon had just begun to peek over the horizon. Back on the mountaintop, she was still reeling from the exquisite swordsmanship she had witnessed; she was too excited to contain herself, her eyes gleaming with a deep light.
If Wei Jiucheng were still alive, he would immediately recognize this as his disciple wanting to thoroughly study something that interests him.
She excitedly pushed open the door, only to find that Senior Bian had already woken up and was sitting on a bamboo couch, half-naked, chatting with Elder Miao.
Hearing the noise, he looked towards the figure appearing at the door. The girl was covered in snowflakes and looked disheveled. But her eyes sparkled like tiny stars, and when she saw him, her smile widened, as radiant and dazzling as the sun, burning hot.
"Senior Bian, you're awake. I think I know how to treat the knife wound on your back now."
Her cold eyes remained unmoved by her words, merely staring at her coldly, while her words were directed at Miao Shouyi standing beside her:
"Elder Miao, take her away. From now on, if any of you allow anyone to come up the mountain without my permission, you will be punished."
"But, Master, your injuries..."
Bian Yuan raised his hand to interrupt Elder Miao.
“I will personally speak with Cui Chou. Tianshan has not fallen to the point where it needs the intervention of an outsider to survive.”
After saying that, Bian Yuan closed his eyes, too lazy to even look at her again, and didn't want to say a single word to her from beginning to end.
Fei Xi paused for a few seconds, then understood what he meant.
Yes, although the knife wound was difficult to heal, getting Cui Chou to reveal the secrets of his swordsmanship would be extremely difficult. But no matter how difficult, it wouldn't matter if the benefits were tempting enough. And for the Lord of Tianshan, he certainly had something to offer that could sway Cui Chou.
Why should he believe her...?
A fleeting hint of disappointment crossed her eyes, so quick it was almost imperceptible. In an instant, her smile returned, and she said to the troubled-looking Elder Miao beside her:
"Grandpa Miao, I'm short of Atractylodes macrocephala. Can I take some back with me?"
"Sigh...alright, alright. Girl, you can take whatever you want from here."
Old Miao naturally understood that this intelligent and kind-hearted young girl didn't want to put him in a difficult position. He glanced at his master, then at Fei Xi who had already turned and left, and couldn't help but let out a long sigh.
As soon as the master woke up, he asked him where the little girl had gone. When he heard that the little girl had gone to find the butcher Cui Chou on her own, he immediately ordered him to bring her back with a cold face. But before he could even set off, she had already returned.
He had always heard that Cui Chou was gentle and considerate towards women, so he didn't object when the little maid made the suggestion. Now that the little maid had brought back good news, he didn't know why his master wasn't even willing to give it a try and simply sent her away.
But he knew his master wasn't as cold-hearted as he appeared, so he cautiously probed and pleaded:
“Master, the wind and snow are heavy tonight, and the little girl is soaked. Let her stay here for the night before going down.”
The person on the bamboo couch kept his eyes closed and remained silent, but Miao Lao, who had followed him for many years, immediately understood that his master had tacitly approved.
He quietly went out and gently closed the door.
Upon leaving the house, he saw that the little girl who had said she wanted to get the atractylodes had not gone to get the medicine, but was instead writing something on the crescent-shaped table where he was cutting herbs.
Seeing him approach, the little girl put her finger to her lips, making a shushing gesture. She wrote for a while longer before putting down her pen, blowing on the paper, and handing it to him.
All I heard was her say in an extremely soft voice:
"Grandpa Miao, try using this method to apply acupuncture again later, and then have Senior Bian take the medicine according to this prescription. But please don't tell Senior Bian that it was my idea."
Old Miao curiously took the paper, and after reading its contents, he felt a sudden sense of enlightenment. Looking at the prescription, he was even more amazed. He looked at the young girl in front of him, both pleased and puzzled:
“Girl, your master is not an unreasonable person, and how could your grandfather take credit for your work? Others may not be able to see the value of your prescription, but your grandfather understands its worth. You've brought it out like this, and you won't regret it if you don't get any recognition?”
"Grandpa Miao, Senior Bian was injured while saving me. No matter how rare a prescription is, it only has value when it is used. I understand Senior Bian's concerns, so please keep it a secret for me, Grandpa Miao. As long as Senior Bian is safe and sound, I will be content."
As she finished speaking, Fei Xi looked up and smiled brightly, her smile pure and without a trace of gloom, seemingly unconcerned that no one knew what she had done.
Old Miao was stunned for a moment, then a warm feeling rose in his heart. He remembered that back then, everyone in the Qingcheng Sect was a hero, but now only this lonely little girl was left in the sect.
Having lived most of his life, he could naturally see that the young girl before him was a person of utmost purity and sincerity; it was rare to find such a girl so devoted to her master. And these old people could only stay with their master for a few more years; if they were to let this girl…
Old Miao's mind raced, and the more he thought about it, the more brilliant his idea seemed. Having made up his mind, the old man looked at the little girl with a loving expression and said:
“The mountain path is difficult to walk at night, and there’s wind and snow. Girl, don’t go down the mountain tonight. Stay here with Grandpa for the night. Tomorrow morning, Grandpa will personally take you down the mountain.”
Fei Xi wasn't entirely sure if the new acupuncture method would actually work. Seeing that she could still stay on the mountaintop, she was naturally overjoyed and quickly nodded in agreement.
But a new problem has arisen: Elder Miao has no guest rooms, and Senior Bian has already occupied the bamboo couch in the alchemy room. So where should she sleep tonight?
Before she could even ask, Old Miao told her to go change her clothes, saying he had his own plans. Only then did Fei Xi notice that her shoes and coat were already soaked through by the snowflakes and frozen solid.
When Fei Xi finished changing her clothes and came out of the side room carrying a hot water bottle, she heard Elder Miao in the alchemy room calling her to help brew medicine. Fei Xi hummed in agreement, went to fetch the medicinal herbs, and set up a small stove to brew the medicine.
Before the medicine was even ready, Elder Miao came over, took the fan from her hand, and told her to go and rest. Fei Xi was completely confused, but Elder Miao snatched the fan from her hand and pushed her to the door of the alchemy room.
With a sense of doubt, she pushed open the door. As soon as she opened it, she saw that Old Miao had pieced together a new bed from stools and planks next to the bamboo couch. She looked up in surprise at the man who was already dressed and lying on his side on the bamboo couch, his eyes closed as if he were already fast asleep.
Just as she was struggling with whether or not to go out, a clear, cold voice rang out from the bamboo couch:
"Get some rest early, we'll go down the mountain tomorrow."
"Ok!"
Her light voice carried a barely concealed pounding heartbeat. Fei Xi tiptoed to the bedside and carefully lay down. Before closing her eyes, she couldn't help but steal one last glance at Bian Yuan, who was not far from her. Afraid that her heartbeat would disturb him, she whispered something almost inaudibly:
"Good night."
