Chapter 19 A fight breaks out over a mere disagreement
Chapter 19 A fight breaks out over a mere disagreement
Chu Ruohan jogged after Song Ruyan to the study door. She never expected that her casual question would cause Song Ruyan to dash out.
Before she could react, loud banging and fighting sounds came from the study.
Song Ruyan and Ying Qing's figures clashed in the chaos. To be precise, Song Ruyan was chasing and attacking Ying Qing, while Ying Qing dodged the attacks the entire time.
The exquisite study looked as if it had been ravaged by a catastrophe, with all sorts of precious ornaments and trinkets scattered all over the floor, leaving it in a complete mess.
Song Ruyan kicked the table leg hard, and with a loud "crack", the table made of fine sandalwood shattered instantly, and wood chips flew everywhere.
Chu Ruohan's heart skipped a beat. How could it have such astonishing destructive power? Didn't her leg hurt?
Just then, a cup suddenly flew towards Chu Ruohan at an extremely fast speed. Chu Ruohan had no chance to dodge it and could only watch helplessly as the cup approached, instinctively closing her eyes.
"what……"
At this critical moment, Gu Junze threw the calligraphy brush beside him. The brush drew a streak of ink in the air and struck the cup precisely. The cup shattered instantly, and the fragments scattered all over the ground.
There was no pain as expected. Chu Ruohan opened her eyes, still shaken. She patted her chest with trembling hands and let out a long breath.
"enough."
Gu Junze's voice wasn't loud, but it was full of authority, and his dark pupils were filled with suppressed anger.
Yingqing had been by Gu Junze's side for many years, so she knew her master was angry and immediately stopped.
Seeing this, Song Ruyan raised her leg, which she had been about to kick out, and slowly, with a hint of reluctance, lowered it. Her eyes, however, still held a burning desire to try, and her heart was filled with an irrepressible will to win.
The study fell silent, with only the slightly rapid breathing of the group remaining.
Gu Junze turned to look at Chu Ruohan, his eyes full of concern, "Are you alright?"
Chu Ruohan shook her head. "She...I..." She hesitated, her expression full of helplessness.
She wanted to explain, but she didn't know how to do it, or how to find a proper explanation for Song Ruyan's behavior.
Song Ruyan clasped her hands together, raised her chin slightly, and said loudly, "Young Master, please don't make things difficult for her. I wanted to spar with this warrior myself. I'll compensate for anything that gets broken."
Gu Junze had no idea where the Chu family had found such a brute. And which eye of hers had seen that he intended to make things difficult for Chu Ruohan?
Chu Ruohan looked around, and the mess on the ground made her stop in her tracks. There was nowhere to put her foot down, so she had no choice but to give up and stand awkwardly in place.
"Your Highness, this house is in such a state that we really can't stay here any longer. Why don't you move to my place first?"
After Gu Junze agreed, Ying Qing immediately stepped forward and pushed him to walk out. Chu Ruohan quickly stepped aside to make way and then followed beside him.
Throughout the journey, everyone remained silent, with only the soft creaking sound of the wheelchairs rolling over the ground.
Song Ruyan was taken away by the wet nurse to be taught proper manners; the girl was too unruly.
The elegant interior of Chu Ruohan's residence contrasted sharply with the mess in her study.
Seeing Ying Qing's hesitant expression, she wanted to leave to give them some space, but was suddenly grabbed by Gu Junze's arm.
"It's alright." Gu Junze's tone was calm yet unquestionable.
Yingqing was slightly taken aback, clearly not expecting the young master to trust his young mistress to such an extent.
A hint of surprise flashed in his eyes before he slowly nodded, seemingly acknowledging the situation and accepting the fact that Chu Ruohan had stayed aside.
“Your Highness, the incense did not originate from the Marquis’s shop. I have found out that the incense was purchased from elsewhere, and the source of the supply is the Earl and the Marquis’s family.”
Chu Ruohan frowned slightly. How did the Earl's mansion get involved? The Countess and Mother Gu have always been at odds.
She bowed slightly and suggested, "Your Highness, why don't I go to the Earl's and Marquis's residence tomorrow to sound out their intentions? I'll say that the new bride received a gift from her elders and is feeling uneasy, so she's come to return the favor. That way, no one will suspect anything."
Gu Junze thought for a moment and nodded slightly, "Alright, I'll go out with you tomorrow."
After saying that, he looked up at Chu Ruohan and did not hide his plan, "I want to take this opportunity to go out and find another doctor to examine my pulse."
Chu Ruohan understood. "The Chu family owns a pharmacy in the capital. The doctor there is highly skilled and cautious. He will definitely keep the secret and there will be no leaks."
"In that case, I'll trouble you to make the arrangements."
Chu Ruohan was completely surprised; she had never expected that Gu Junze would stay at her place tonight.
Originally, she thought that the two of them would just casually have sex, at least to save face for each other, and then they could live peacefully in the future.
It also saves me from a lot of gossip.
Then I thought of the study, now a complete ruin, and realized it was indeed uninhabitable. But weren't there still many empty rooms in the Hongmeng Courtyard?
The two lay quietly on the bed, one on each side, just as they had the night before.
After struggling in silence for a long time, Chu Ruohan finally broke the peace of the room.
"The young master knows kung fu?"
The scene from earlier that day kept replaying in her mind: how Gu Junze could so precisely shatter the flying teacup with a single blow.
The technique, the strength, and the instantaneous judgment were beyond the reach of ordinary people.
Gu Junze slowly opened his eyes, which had been slightly closed. "When I was young, my mother hired a martial arts master for me. I have always been weak, and I practiced martial arts only to strengthen my body and give this sick body some vitality."
"Unfortunately, as I grew older, my leg ailment worsened, and I could no longer stand up, making it difficult to perform many of my martial arts skills."
Chu Ruohan turned her head slightly, her gaze falling on Gu Junze's profile. Though the hint of loneliness there was fleeting, she still managed to catch it keenly.
"I see. Even if the move you made today was just the aftereffect of your past martial arts training, it was still amazing."
Gu Junze gently shook his head. "It's just a trivial trick. I was forced to do it today because I was afraid that the cup would hurt you."
His voice was calm, yet it seemed to send a warm current through Chu Ruohan's heart.
He was afraid she would get hurt...
"Come here." Gu Junze patted the bed.
Chu Ruohan was slightly taken aback, but still obediently lay down beside him.
Gu Junze placed his hand naturally on her body, then patted her gently with a soothing rhythm, saying, "Sleep!"
His voice was deep and gentle, which made Chu Ruohan unconsciously immerse herself in this rare peace and warmth. She slowly closed her eyes and let sleepiness wash over her like a tide.
Chu Ruohan slept soundly through the night, without having any nightmares. This was the most peaceful and sweet sleep she had had since her rebirth...
