Chapter 158: The Candle Castle Front
Chapter 158: The Candle Castle Front
Count Ford von Walter, one of the five earls in the North, arrived with his troops at night and joined forces with Yasha's troops just a few miles away from Candlelight Keep. Also with them were the local rebels in Morgan led by Baron Victor. All together, there were more than 4000 people, which was several times the current strength of Candlelight Keep.
Ford himself did not come. The leader was a baron under his command named Langman. He was pale, had black hair, and had a hint of gloom in his deep red eyes. He did not wear any protective gear, but a gorgeous black dress and a one-shoulder cape. What was even more exaggerated was that he did not come on horseback, but sat in a noble carriage. People couldn't help but wonder, is this guy here to fight or for a picnic?
Yasha looked at the baron and felt that it was ridiculous. For some reason, she felt a chill on her spine and instinctively wanted to stay away from him. To be honest, Ford's participation in the war was beyond her expectations. Although her plan was to unite with the other three earls, it was just an attempt for Ford. The latter's territory was not adjacent to Morgan Territory, but to Doronso. So, rather than uniting them to fight Carl, it was better to rely on a covenant to prevent the other party from backstabbing her.
She never thought that the other party would send troops, but not only did they send troops, but in terms of the number of people, they also mobilized the entire territory.
But what was their purpose? What were they trying to achieve? Yasha couldn't figure it out at all. They couldn't really want to seek justice for the Morgan family, right?
Yasha shook her head. Since she couldn't figure it out, she simply gave up. The other party was willing to send troops, which was a good thing. She could just take over. But the commander who led the team... was a bit hard to describe.
But no matter how useless they were, it was better than nothing. Then she scanned the enemy's troops again and noticed that the soldiers were extremely listless. Their faces were full of fatigue and fear, and their eyes revealed deep anxiety. Some people even looked around from time to time, as if they were alert to some invisible enemy.
Was this caused by the long journey? No, people would only get tired after a long journey, but were they afraid? Were they afraid of the enemy or their commander?
Yasha's gaze shifted to Baron Langman again. She coughed twice and said politely:
"Welcome, Baron Langman. I sincerely thank you and the Earl for your support."
Langman glanced at her expressionlessly, with a hint of disdain in his eyes:
"Forget the polite words. Where is the enemy?"
"Ah?" Yasha was stunned for a moment. What he meant was... they wanted to start a war in a hurry? "The enemy is now defending the Wind Candle Castle and is not coming out. The leader is the famous Flame Alia."
"Alia? Never heard of her." Langman replied coldly, "Lead her out of the city, and I will be responsible for killing her."
"This..." Yasha looked at the soldiers brought by the other side again. They were filled with deep fatigue and fear. Not to mention whether the other side was willing to go out of the city to fight, could his soldiers fight in their current state?
"Excuse me, your troops are not in good condition. I suggest you take a day off first..."
"As long as they can raise their weapons!" Before she could finish, Langman interrupted her impatiently, "They are just useless people who are here to make up the numbers. I don't expect them to be very powerful~"
"This..." Yasha was speechless for a moment, and Hilde beside her couldn't help laughing out loud.
Langman glared at the female swordsman unceremoniously, then turned to look at the soldiers behind him, and suddenly said to a captain-like attendant beside him:
"Pick out 200 people and follow me to challenge them!"
"Um... Mr. Baron, how do we choose?" the captain asked cautiously.
"Let's draw lots, and those who draw the lots will step out~" Langman said indifferently.
Then a ridiculous scene began. The more than 2000 people he brought were divided into several groups, and they began to draw lots under the arrangement of several team leaders. Yasha and Hilde stared at all this in a daze. What kind of army was this? What kind of command method was this? They had never seen or heard of this before.
"He's an idiot~" Hilde complained.
"Either an idiot or a genius," Yasha replied.
"Well, that's undoubtedly an idiot," Hilde replied.
After a while, the drawing of lots was over, and 200 unlucky ghosts were pushed out, each of them with their eyes wide open in fear, and obeyed orders submissively.
One of them even knelt down:
"Please, Lord Baron, let me go. I have a wife and children. I can't die!"
"I just asked you to go to war, who says you will definitely die?" Langman shouted angrily.
However, before he could finish, the man turned around and fled, and immediately afterwards an arrow pierced his chest. The deserter fell to the ground and died instantly.
Langman put down the bow in his hand, and then said without emotion:
"Anyone who dares to escape will suffer the same fate as him."
There was complete silence for a moment. After seeing that no one objected, he waved his hand at everyone:
"Then follow me!"
Then he led two hundred people and began to stride towards Fengzhu Castle.
Yes, Yasha was not mistaken, he was not riding a horse, but leading the team on foot. He also did not change into armor, but was still wearing that flashy dress.
"Wait, Lord Baron, are you really going to fight Alia like this?"
"Is there any problem?" Langman turned his head and asked unceremoniously.
"At least change into your armor, or I'm afraid you won't be able to come back," Hilde said sarcastically.
"I have confidence in my skills!" Langman replied, and added, "You guys wait here for my good news, and no one is allowed to interfere."
Then he led his men and disappeared into the night.
Hilde sighed helplessly, and then complained to Yasha:
"He's not stupid, he's crazy! They didn't even have torches!"
"Since he said that, let's just wait for his good news~" Yasha had a calm expression on her face.
"Waiting for news of his death?" Hilde complained again.
The two girls sat bored in the tent during the long night, watching the flickering candlelight. Hilde even yawned. She didn't know how long she had been waiting. When the sky was slightly bright and a small patch of white appeared in the sky, news finally came from the front:
Langman was defeated without any suspense, and all 200 men were wiped out!
When the two of them walked out of the tent, they saw Langman limping back, his face covered in blood, not sure whether it was from the enemy or his own. His dress was torn, with obvious holes everywhere, and his one-shoulder cloak was completely torn into strips.
After seeing Yasha and Hilde, he lowered his head slightly in shame, and then said:
"You are right. Alia is indeed quite powerful. We still need to make long-term plans..."
"Uh..." Hilde opened his mouth and finally said, "It's a relief that you can come back alive, but where are the others?"
"Dead, all dead, or captured, anyway, they are just helping the rubbish..."
"My Lord Baron, I suggest you take a rest first. There is no rush to attack the city~" Yasha said on the side.
Langman looked up at the sky, then sighed:
"Forget it. I haven't had a rest in the past few days. It's time to get some sleep."
After that, he entered the tent with the help of two team leaders.
Hilde looked at the other person's back and laughed again:
"What kind of pig teammates are these?"
Yasha smiled slightly and then said:
"It doesn't matter. No matter what, they can't turn the tables. Morgan Territory will eventually belong to Lady Mia~"
