Chapter 12 Adopted Sister
Chapter 12 Adopted Sister
"You good-for-nothing son!" Sun Suying looked at her disappointing eldest son and didn't know what to say to him. "You two chat here. I'm going to buy some groceries. Wenwen, don't rush off. Try Auntie's cooking!"
"No need to trouble yourself, Auntie, I'll just grab something to eat." Although Wang Wenwen was being polite, she also implied that she wanted to stay for dinner.
When only Chen Yu and Wang Wenwen were left in the room, Wang Wenwen suddenly didn't know what to say, and the atmosphere became awkward. Although the city and the county weren't too far apart, it still took more than twenty minutes by car. Wang Wenwen had suddenly felt the urge to see Chen Yu, and she couldn't suppress her thoughts. Worried that Chen Yu wouldn't let her come, she took it upon herself to sneak over.
Sitting on the sofa, I looked around boredly and saw a few trophies on the bookshelves, but they all seemed to be from junior high and elementary school. I couldn't help but ask curiously, "Brother Xiaoyu, have you won so many awards before? Did you even participate in the Math Olympiad?"
Chen Yu could only give a vague answer, "I did participate, but I gave up because I didn't have the talent."
"You haven't participated since high school?"
"High school coursework was too demanding, and I was under a lot of academic pressure, so I didn't participate in these things." Chen Yu didn't want to discuss these past events with Wang Wenwen anymore, and changed the subject, saying, "Wenwen, when do you want to go back to school?"
"I'm available from tomorrow until next Tuesday, but I have class on Wednesday."
"Okay, tomorrow then. I've taken care of things at home. I'll find someone to take us to school first thing tomorrow morning."
Sun Suying returned from grocery shopping soon after. Wang Wenwen wanted to help Sun Suying cook, but Sun Suying sent her back to the living room and asked Chen Yu to watch TV and chat with her.
At lunchtime, Chen Xu also arrived. After a brief introduction, they began to eat. This time, Sun Suying didn't serve food to Chen Yu, but instead served food to Wang Wenwen. Later, when Wang Wenwen couldn't eat anymore, she blushed and shared some with Chen Yu.
After finishing their meal, Chen Yu drove Wang Wenwen home, instructing her to pack her luggage to avoid any chaos the next morning.
The next day, Chen Yu contacted Wang Hongbo, the company's driver, and asked him to drive Chen Yunqiu's car to take Chen Yu and Wang Wenwen to the airport.
Chen Yu remained waiting downstairs at Wang Wenwen's apartment, not going upstairs, but instead informing her that she could come down. Unlike Chen Yu's two-story self-built house, Wang Wenwen's apartment was in a city apartment building, on the fourth floor. Coming down would take a while, especially with luggage. However, Chen Yu still didn't choose to go upstairs to help; going to a girl's apartment was, in the eyes of the neighbors, something only done after a relationship was established.
After Wang Wenwen put her luggage in the trunk, Chen Yu sat in the passenger seat again, so Wang Wenwen had to sit in the back.
Driver Wang Hongbo asked, "Young boss, shall we set off now?"
"Okay, let's go." After saying that, Chen Yu leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes to rest.
Wang Wenwen was incredibly curious, but with outsiders present and Chen Yu seemingly about to sleep, she didn't dare ask too many questions. It wasn't until they arrived at the airport and the driver drove back that she couldn't help but ask, "Brother Xiaoyu, why does he call you 'Little Boss'?"
“My dad owns several fast food restaurants, it’s called Yunying Catering, you’ve probably heard of it, right? There are several branches in the city. This Wang Hongbo is my dad’s driver, so he calls me Little Boss.”
Wang Wenwen was rarely surprised. "I often eat there. I never expected it was your family's business!"
Suddenly sensing something was off, she turned back to Chen Yu and asked, "When I went to your house yesterday, you didn't seem that wealthy. With so many shops in your family, why would you stay there?"
“Last year, my dad bought two houses in the city. We even moved there for a while, but my mom didn’t feel comfortable and insisted on moving back to that old house. She said she had lived in that old house for almost 30 years, and moving to the city would leave her all alone, which made her feel very lonely. Living in her old house, she could chat with the neighbors and play cards.” Chen Yu was in favor of buying the houses, believing that even if they didn’t live there, they could wait for the property to appreciate in value, which would at least be a backup plan.
After hearing this, Wang Wenwen didn't say anything more, but sat there thoughtfully.
Back on campus, Chen Yu resumed his university life. Although the event was held during the summer vacation, the selection, assessment, and training still took up some time, making Chen Yu's studies quite demanding. Chen Yu chose industrial design, a mechanical engineering major. Before Chen Yu's transmigration, Zhang Liangjun had also studied a similar major, but it was just an ordinary undergraduate degree, far inferior to the teaching quality of the current Capital University of Technology.
Because he had some basic knowledge and was interested in the subject, the professor rarely liked him and often took him and his graduate students to do small projects.
During the National Day holiday, Chen Yu told his family that he would not go back home and would return on New Year's Day.
Wang Wenwen would frequently ask Chen Yu to go out, but Chen Yu almost always refused. His three roommates' eyes were red with worry. Even when he agreed to go out, he would try to bring one or two classmates along, never giving Wang Wenwen a chance.
Until New Year's Day, Chen Yu returned home. He did not receive any invitations from Wang Wenwen to come home with him, nor did he cause any further trouble. He boarded the plane home alone.
Unexpectedly, I saw Wang Wenwen at home.
What are you doing here?
Wang Wenwen looked very proud, "My godmother is here, so I can stay here!"
"Godmother?"
“Yes, I’ve already adopted Wenwen as my goddaughter,” Sun Suying said with a smile, answering Chen Yu’s question.
But Chen Yu had a new question: "When did this happen? How come I didn't know? Why didn't anyone tell me?"
"Do I need your approval for everything? Wenwen thinks that I'm much better off at home, and she comes to see me and chat with me every time she has a holiday, than some biological sons!" Sun Suying's emotional intelligence is quite high; she knows how to say things in a flattering way. In the original drama, she quickly covered up Chen Xu's lie during a phone call with Zhong Xiaoqin, just to exonerate him. But it was also because of the saying "a doting mother spoils her son" that Chen Xu in the original drama turned out to be a bad person.
The atmosphere at home suddenly became awkward with the addition of a "god-daughter" and "god-sister".
Chen Yu, who was already quiet by nature, became even more silent now.
After spending two awkward days at home, I hurriedly returned to school, using the excuse that I had something to do at the Ducheng branch.
Remembering the awkward atmosphere at home, Chen Yu didn't want to go back, and even during the Spring Festival, he only stayed home for three days. It wasn't until a month before Chen Xu's college entrance exam that Chen Yu returned, gave Chen Xu a pep talk, encouraged him, and then took him to the exam venue. During this time, Wang Wenwen probably didn't show up, probably afraid of delaying Chen Xu, which relieved Chen Yu.
